Video Cardi B Thanks Tom Petty for Sending Her Flowers After the Grammys, Guess No On Told Her Died in 2017

Cardi B made a big gaffe after her big night at the Grammys.

After winning her first-ever Grammy on Sunday — and becoming only the second woman to pick up the prestigious best rap album award — Cardi received many congratulatory messages and gifts, including one which she seemed to mistakenly believe was sent by the late singer Tom Petty.

“Thank you Tom Petty for the flowers,” Cardi mused in a since-deleted Instagram Story post, seemingly not realizing that Petty died of an accidental drug overdose in 2017.

“I left the room but the flowers were very big. I want to say thank you so much,” she continued, before thanking Petty for the “beautiful note” he included with the flowers.

The note — which read “You’ve got a big heart. So big it could crush this town” — are lyrics from the singer’s 1996 song, “Walls (Circus).” The confusion seemed to stem from the fact that the quote was attributed to Petty, whose name was printed on the bottom of the message.

“Motherfuckers love me, bro!” Cardi exclaimed at the conclusion of the video.
