‘Star Wars’ and Notorious B.I.G. Join Forces in Epic Mash-Up
Nerdcore rapper Richie Branson has created the ultimate valentine to what are clearly two great loves of his: Star Wars and The Notorious B.I.G. Who knew they would be such a match made in heaven? Apparently, Branson did. The artist has released a free album download that mixes Biggie songs with John Williams’ legendary Star Wars score, perfectly timed to the upcoming release of the next installment of the film franchise,The Force Awakens, as well as Biggie’s perennial regard as the greatest rapper of all time.
Mixing such classic Biggie tracks as “Ten Crack Commandments” and “Big Poppa” with Star Wars‘ Mos Eisley Cantina music and “The Imperial March,” Branson and producer Solar Slim (who together are known as the Otaku Gang) have created a quirky but seamless sonic quilting of two distinctly different but complementary genres.
Perhaps this bodes well for Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s contribution to the new Force score, as director J.J. Abrams revealed last week that the rap-musical king had collaborated on new cantina music for the film. Bringing musical theater, sci-fi and rap fans together would be a holiday miracle unto itself.
