Watch Run the Jewels Get Attacked Onstage at SXSW
The rap super-duo Run the Jewels was attacked onstage Monday during a performance at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, briefly interrupting their set at the Spotify house event.
It’s not clear what exactly happened or why, but mid-set an unidentified man came onstage and approached the pair, attempting to take a swing at El-P. His partner, Killer Mike, spotted the would-be assailant and intercepted him, while the band’s crew members intervened and got him out of there, Radio.com reports.
Run the Jewels then continued on with their set.
An audience member caught video of the episode and posted it to Instagram:
Another video shows the same assailant then fighting with fans in the audience before what appears to be a security guard knocks him down with a punch to the face:
El-P and Killer Mike seemed to laugh it off afterwards. One audience member tweeted, quoting them jokingly calling the intruder a “F—boy” onstage.
On Twitter, El-P apologized for the “the brief interruption” and thanked their team for handling the situation:
those weren't audience members fucking dude up that was our people. we are about peace but don't make the mistake of thinking we are alone.
