Watch Marilyn Manson Become ‘Mephistopheles of Los Angeles’ Featuring Omar from The Wire
Marilyn Manson takes the title Antichrist Superstar to heart for his latest video, “The Mephistopheles of Los Angeles.” In the black and white clip off his latest album The Pale Emperor, Manson’s dark twist on Catholic imagery takes center stage.
The video begins with a brief cameo from the actor Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire) who acts as a Faustian narrator. “The first time I met him I could feel the hounds of hell,” Williams’ character states solemnly from the shadows about his initial meeting with Manson’s Mephistopheles character. As the song begins, Manson is seen blessing and baptizing his followers, screaming “Hallelujah!” and smearing his lipstick while singing, “Lazarus got no dirt on me.” “Mephistopheles” is the fourth single off his ninth album, The Pale Emperor.
Manson and friend Billy Corgan announced a joint summer trek called The End Times tour, with the summer dates doubling as a philanthropic venture. The pair will work closely with Easter Seals Dixon Center to raise awareness about the struggles faced by veterans in our communities.
“Manson comes from a military family, and I come from a lot of military in my family,” Corgan revealed to Rolling Stone. “We can speak to the personal effect that yes, we can be artists and yes, we can play these roles in public, but at the end of the day, if we don’t serve all our communities — [and] veterans are an integral part of our communities — we’re not really doing service as artists or as people.”
Manson and the Smashing Pumpkins will begin their month-long North American trek on July 7th in Concord, California.
