Watch ‘Empire’ Cast Play a Happy Family in ‘You’re So Beautiful’ Video

Even after its heart-stopping season finale, Fox’s breakout hit Empire can still find ways to assert its dominance over both TV and music. The new video for “You’re So Beautiful” combines a number of smiling, upbeat clips of the dysfunctional Lyon family.

The video culls from scenes that were the catalyst for the family’s anguish over Empire‘s first season. With middle son Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) taking the lead on the song that made patriarch Lucious a megastar, the video focuses mainly on Jamal’s debut public performance of “You’re So Beautiful.”

On the show, the same “white party” performance served as the launch spot for Jamal’s coming out, carefully changing the words to make the song’s subject a male and to upset his homophobic father. The official “You’re So Beautiful” clip focuses on the smiling family at the party and recording together in the studio; fitting moments for the lighthearted, upbeat song.

Empire‘s debut season premiered in January with one of the most successful first-season runs in television history. (The show’s ratings rose dramatically with each episode.) With original songs produced by Timbaland and a variety of superstar guests either playing characters (Courtney Love, Jennifer Hudson) or themselves (Snoop Dogg, Patti LaBelle), the series also became its own hit factory along the way.

As fans await its second season, TV Line has reported that scene-stealing assistants Becky (Gaborey Sidibe) and Porsha (Ta’Rhonda Jones) have become series regulars. A premiere date has not yet been set for the show’s second season, though Kanye West recently joked at the 2015 Time 100 Gala about his performance at the event showing up on the program. “Lee, don’t try to take this on your next season, man,” West directed towards the show’s creator Lee Daniels. “If you see this on Empire, you just know where he got it from.”
