Watch Dave Grohl Cover Neil Young With Pearl Jam, Blind Melon Members

Prior to Foo Fighters‘ epic, all-day 20th anniversary concert July 4th in Washington, D.C., Dave Grohl organized a Rally & Ride motorcycle event for the morning of the RFK Stadium gig. The 9:30 a.m. party offered up a chef-made breakfast, coffee and a surprise concert with Grohl fronting a semi-supergroup of fellow rockers like former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen (not the ex-Pearl Jam drummer with an arrest warrant), Blind Melon guitarist Christopher Thorn, singer-songwriter Jonny Kaplan and Foo Fighters keyboardist Rami Jaffee, Alternative Nation reports.

With Grohl’s broken leg slung across folding chairs and not a gigantic throne, the Rally & Ride rockers performed a faithful rendition of Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl.” Grohl and his unlikely band of alternative rock all-stars also delivered a cover of the Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers classic “Bitch,” a track the Foo Fighters singer previously performed alongside Mick Jagger and company during the Stones’ May 2013 concert in Anaheim, California.

Bitch is also the name of the all-Rolling Stones cover band that Kaplan, Krusen, Jaffee and Thorn all perform in. The brief concert also marked a unique instance in which the drummer on Nirvana’s Nevermind and the drummer on Pearl Jam’s Ten shared the stage together.

After the Rally & Ride performance, the attendees hopped on their bikes – motorcycles were mandatory for entry – and drove down to RFK Stadium, where Foo Fighters had a day’s worth of music in store to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their self-titled debut. Joan Jett, Trouble Funk, LL Cool J, Buddy Guy, Gary Clark, Jr. and Trombone Shorty were all in attendance for the mini-festival, which concluded with the hometown heroes performing a hits-filled set with Grohl sitting atop an enormous, Oxycontin-inspired throne.
