Watch Baseball-Themed Trailer for ‘Dazed and Confused’ ‘Spiritual Sequel’
Richard Linklater has built a legacy on long-form filmmaking, as evidenced by Boyhoodand the once-a-decade Before Sunrise series. Now, the acclaimed director will turn his breakthrough feature Dazed and Confused into another of his lengthy projects by releasing a “spiritual sequel” 22 years later.
Everybody Wants Some sees Linklater revisiting the coming-of-age party scenario from Dazed and Confused, but in a whole new setting. Taking place in the 1980s, the story follows a group of freshman riding into college on baseball scholarships as they explore their newly acquired freedom over one rowdy weekend. As the first trailer hints, the film looks to feature all the types of antics, girl-chasing, and self-accepting heart that has turned Dazed and Confused into such a classic. You’ll meet all the familiar character tropes, like the hard-ass jock, the dimwitted friend, the easily cool guy, and of course, the stoner dropping words of wisdom. As the latter character says in one such fit of sagacity, “You’ve got to embrace your inner strange, man. Just be weird.”
