‘Walking Dead’ Spin-Off Confirmed for Two Seasons

AMC has officially placed a series order on the muchdiscussed Walking Dead companion series, picking up the show for two seasons, according to Variety.

Season One is scheduled to begin this summer with six planned one-hour episodes, while Season Two will follow in 2016. The show’s rumored titles have been Cobalt and Fear the Walking Dead, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and its pilot was co-written by Walking Dead mastermind Robert Kirkman and Sons of Anarchy and Low Winter Sun producer Dave Erickson. The latter will also serve as showrunner.

Only a few details are known about the show, primarily that it will take place in the same universe as The Walking Dead, but will be set in Los Angeles. The cast includes Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey. Previous reports pegged Curtis as the likely male lead, Sean Cabrera, a divorced teacher trying to do right by everyone.

Although AMC refrained from offering any plot details, the network’s president Charlie Collier said, “From the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse and what it looked like as the world really did turn. Through this new series, we’re going to find out.”

“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC,” Kirkman said. “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to The Walking Dead.”

While Kirkman and Co. continue to flesh out the fate of this new pack of zombie fighters, the folks from Atlanta continue their fight to survive. The second half of The Walking Dead’s fifth season began last month and will wrap up at the end of March.
