Sofa King Cool and Almost Gone have teamed up to premiere the video for their new single “Burn”
‘I think the chorus lines “Burn it high tonight, good friends and cold Busch Light” sums it up well. Burn off the bad feels and have a beer about it.’
–Nick GK, Vocals/Guitar
Sofa King Cool caught up with Almost Gone and we talked about their new single “Burn”, and what is next for them
Almost Gine Gives us the details on the new track BURN
Tell us about this latest single “Burn” what made you come up with the idea for the song?
“Burn” is a party anthem for the summer. We’ve released 3 songs this year: “Sanity”, “Parasite” and “Show Me the Way” which all have some angst within them. The message behind “Burn” is to take that angstful energy and release it by partying with people you like to hang out with.
“Burn” is all about partying and having a good time with friends. I think we came up with the idea for the song just because the partying message is true to us. Beer pong and bonfires on a friday night….that’s the kind of stuff we like to do. So it was easy to write a song about it.
–Nick GK, Vocals/Guitar
Does the song have any personal meaning to you or was it something in an observation you wanted to get across to your fans?
The meaning we want to get across to fans is to not let the problems you run into get you down. I think in society we tend to make a lot of problems a lot bigger in our heads than they are in real life.
In the song the first line is “I quit my job today”. Then the song goes on to describe blowing off steam by partying with friends. I think the message here is just because something bad happened to you today, doesn’t mean you can’t blow off steam about it tonight and start again tomorrow.
–Nick GK, Vocals/Guitar
How did you all handle the writing process for “Burn” is writing a group process?
Zach (Rhodes, bass) came to the band with the opening riff and we just went from there. Nick (Gober-Keller, vocals/guitar) went home and wrote the lyrics and Connor (Fowler, drums) came up with the beat for the song to ride on. Rodrigo (Santillan, guitar) put the icing on top with his blistering guitar solo in the middle of the song. With all that, “Burn” was created.
-Whole Band
How soon do you think the band will be able to get back into performing on stage and possibly festivals and touring? Any dates yet?
We actually got back to playing live on May 1, 2021 at the Harborblast festival in Prince George, VA. Virginia got back to live shows in late spring and we’ve been filling up the schedule for the rest of 2021 and into early 2022.
We’ve got the following shows/dates in Virginia to look forward to the rest of this year:
The Hofgarden – July 16, 2021
Sine Irish Pub – August 14, 2021
Slingshot Social Game Club – August 21, 2021
Sine Irish Pub – October 2, 2021
Castleburg Brewery – October 9, 2021
Another Round Bar and Grill – November 19, 2021

How would you describe your music to people who never heard it before?
Almost Gone’s music will give you some strong warped tour vibes. It’s good music for racing down the highway. It’s that kinda nostalgic high energy pop-punk that I think people are craving these days.
I see the success of MGK and Trippie Redd with pop-punk and it makes me realize the audience for pop-punk is hungry for more of this.
Finish the sentence: Almost Gone’s music is music created for ... the new wave of pop-punk fans. There is a huge fan base of bands like Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Taking Back Sunday….the bands that would dominate warped tour bills a few years ago. Then, there are huge fan-bases of the new pop-punk artists such as MGK, Lil Aaron, Lil Lotus, etc. Almost Gone is music for fans of both of those eras of music. Almost Gone is high energy pop-punk music for people from 15 to 45 years old.

Looking at the rest of 2021 what can your listeners look forward to from you?
Almost Gone is filling up the calendar with shows for the rest of this year. A couple of these shows we’re excited to say have some big names on the bill. One of them is with the group White Trash, who were in regular MTV rotation in the early 90’s with their 1991 hit “Apple Pie”. They have reunited and we are getting to link up with them for a show at Another Round Bar and Grill in Richmond, VA on November 19, 2021.
We also have already recorded the follow-up to “Burn” that we plan to release in early fall. In addition to that we have a couple studio dates on the calendar to keep recording more and more singles to drop throughout the rest of 2021.
ALMOST GONE
Banding together in early 2019, Almost Gone consists of guitarist Rodrigo Santillan, bassist Zachary
Rhodes, Drummer Connor Fowler, and guitarist/singer Nick Gober-Keller. The quartet from downtown
Richmond is known for their energetic stage performances and work hard/party hard image. The four
musicians are releasing original singles throughout 2021 that are accessible on all major music streaming
platforms. The bands songs have been described as sounding like a cross between Stone Temple Pilots,
The Offspring, and Blink 182, combining catchy choruses with hooking guitar riffs.
