Tyler, The Creator’s ‘Cherry Bomb’ Ready to Go Off

Tyler, The Creator’s new album Cherry Bomb is primed and ready to blow up next week.

The hip hop artist’s third studio set is loaded into iTunes and it’s timed to go live Monday (April 13) via Odd Future LLC. Two tracks from it are already available to purchase, the opener “Deathcamp” and the piece “F*****g Young/Perfect.” Eagle-eyed users of the KTT forum spotted the involvement of Lil Wayne and Kanye West on one song, “Track 11.”

The 13-track Cherry Bomb is the follow-up to the Odd Future main-man’s April 2013 release Wolf, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Tyler joins a cadre of urban artists who’ve bypassed the traditional album release fanfare for a surprise-release strategy. Turns out, Tyler has been mulling over the shock-drop tactic for some years now. Only, Beyonce, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and even his Odd Future bandmate Earl Sweatshirt beat him to the punch. “I would love to do that,” he told Billboard in an interview published last October. “I wanted to do that with my last album but I wasn’t able to. When Beyoncé did it, I was like “What the f—? That was my idea years ago! F— you!”

The 24-year-old rapper (real name Tyler Okonma) is also trying his hand at the broadcast business. He announced earlier this year he’s creating his own over-the-top network in partnership with former ABC and Yahoo executive Lloyd Braun’s new company, Whalerock.
