THE WALKING DEAD’S GREG NICOTERO WANTS A SNOW BOUND SPIN-OFF

After being the showrunner for the past four seasons, Scott M. Gimple is set to become the chief content officer of The Walking Dead, a new position which AMC created in order to expand the brand. In an interview earlier this month with THR, Gimple teased that they’re considering a variety of options for the franchise, ranging from another spin-off to more webisodes and just about anything you could think of. “We have a bunch of different things in mind,” Gimple said. “Some things that are really complimentary to the stuff we’re doing now and some stuff that’s far afield and very different.”

The possibilities are pretty much endless, but The Walking Dead executive producer Greg Nicotero told Fandom that he has a very particular idea of what he’d like to see in a spin-off.

The one thing that the comic book does great [is] when they introduce the cold weather and the winter. I had even written some webisodes that took place with a frozen zombie herd. And I think that our hopes are — my hopes — would be that we would get into an entirely different location, like a cold weather scenario. Because frozen zombies are f–ing awesome. Until they thaw out and then you’re screwed. Because they would freeze and thaw out, and they would be fine.

There’s the potential for something quite interesting there, but I’d imagine that some of Greg Nicotero’s excitement stems from the the new variety of zombie prosthetics they could create. Nicotero further teased that unlike The Walking Dead or Fear the Walking Dead, it’s unlikely that the next spin-off would be set in the U.S. “We’ve done a good job of allowing our audience to populate the US and I think there’s a lot more opportunities outside of the US for a zombie show,” Nicotero said. Well, I’m down, especially as I’m finally beginning to lose interest in the flagship series. Something new might just get me coming back for more.

Would a snow-bound Walking Dead spin-off set outside the U.S. strike your interest?
