The Walking Dead: What Maggie’s Note Said, Who Did Rosita See, Eugene’s Sketchy Choice, Jesus’ Big Reveal, And What Ever Else You Might Have Missed

Sunday’s new episode of The Walking Dead came with many characters making many plans.

While Rosita and Sasha appear to be all set for a suicidal assassination mission in which they will attempt to take out Negan, others have plans back at the Hilltop. Maggie, Jesus, and Enid and rallying the community and teaching them how to fight for when the time comes.

Maggie, however, has bigger plans for the community. The woman who continues to emerge as the groups’ leader was seen writing down a list of necessary supplies to start the episode.

Scrap Metal

The first item on Maggie’s list reads, “Scrap metal.”

Scrap metal can be used for a number of things by the Hilltop. It might be able to fortify their walls but is more likely a resource which will be allocated to creating weapons. The Hilltop is known for fighting with spears. The tips of those spears feature sharpened metal points. It’s the most likely place for Maggie to need scrap metal, though the resource can likely be used in a number of ways.

Batteries

The second item on Maggie list reads, “Batteries.”

What exactly does Maggie need batteries for? It’s anybodies guess.

However, in the apocalypse, having a working flashlight handy is never a bad option when threats of walkers or, worse, humans, can be lurking around any corner at any time. At the Hilltop, the community has limited electricity. Maggie is likely coming up with a plan for the community to chat via walkie talkie radios during the inevitable war ahead and realizes such luxuries will require batteries to operate properly.

It’s unlikely she wants to plug in her iPhone 7 to look at photos of her and Glenn.

New Generator

The third item on Maggie’s list reads, “New Generator, Ask Eduardo?”

The use of generator is pretty simple: power the trailers and other luxuries offered at the Hilltop community. Why Maggie needs a new generator is more interesting, though. Maggie’s trailer seems to be working just fine but, still, she wants to discuss Eduardo (the guy who is usually watching the Hilltop’s gate, spear in hand) how they can get a new one.

Could Maggie be planning to set up some sort of temporary camp outside of the Hilltop for an attack on Negan and the Saviors at the Sanctuary?

Emergency Exit

The fourth item on Maggie’s list reads, “Emergency Exit.”

Given that Maggie is hiding away from the Saviors, she needs an escape route. If Negan, Simon, or any other member of the villainous baddie bunch shows up at the Hilltop, they come thinking Maggie is dead and Daryl is missing. If either of them were to be caught hiding out and plotting at the Hilltop, not only would they be in trouble and likely killed but Gregory, Jesus, and the other members of the Hilltop who helped them survive in the community without being caught would also be punished.

Plus, Sasha and Rosita are up to no good. If things go awry at the Hilltop and Negan launches an attack, the group will need a readily available option to hightail it out of town.

Horses??

The fifth and final item on Maggie’s list reads, “Horses??”

Horses become a staple for transportation in Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comics. We have seen a few characters saddle up on the noble steeds throughout the AMC series, however, with all of the communities beginning to work together and travel to each other so frequently, fuel supplies will run low and horses will become more necessary.

With the war ahead, more members of each community will need to be mobile. With horses being stabled in the Hilltop, the community’s army will be at the ready to move quickly on a moment’s notice.

Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 14 follow.

The Walking Dead‘s The Other Side episode followed Rosita and Sasha as they carried out their suicide mission to kill Negan. However, the mission did not go exactly as the envisioned it. Unable to get a clear shot at the leader of the Saviors from a distance, Sasha and Rosita elected to sneak into the compound under the cloak of darkness.

First of all, Eugene elected not to be saved and ran back inside when the two women offered him rescuing. Then, Sasha clipped the fence while ordering Rosita to cover their backs and locked it behind her, ultimately, allowing herself the opportunity to get inside and kill as many Saviors as possible and forcing Rosita to head back to Alexandria.

While the fate of Sasha is still very much up in the air as gunshots rang out upon her entry, another big question surfaced to conclude the episode.

Who was the shadowy figure Rosita saw on the outskirts of the Saviors’ community?

Daryl Dixon

The go-to conclusion when for a figure of a long-haired individual with a crossbow strapped to their shoulder in the world of The Walking Dead is Daryl Dixon.

The last time Daryl was seen in The Walking Dead‘s The Other Side episode, he grabbed Jesus at the Hilltop and asked where Sasha and Rosita went. He appeared to have realized that they went out on a mission which was kept a secret for a reason. It is unlikely that Jesus lied to Daryl in an effort to cover for the two characters.

Furthermore, Daryl would not have his bow drawn upon finding Rosita. There is no reason for him to be aiming at a friend which gives a little credibility to the theory that Daryl is watching her.

However, Daryl is very uptight and gaurded, especially after his imprisonment at Negan’s Sanctuary. It’s unlikely the character would stroll through any area of the apocalypse without his bow drawn, especially when he is nearing enemy territory.

After all, why would Daryl hide from Rosita? He could simply approach her and offer help or insist she come back to the Hilltop. Which means it was probably someone else…

Dwight

The most likely candidate to have been spying on Rosita is Dwight of the Saviors.

Dwight, however, is likely not out to kill Rosita while she, on the other hand, would kill him upon spotting him. Offering the illusion that he is Daryl provides the opportunity to explain himself to Rosita after she was present for when he killed Denise.

Dwight’s bow is not drawn, indicating he feels safe and is also not an enemy.

In The Walking Dead comics, Dwight outs himself as a traitor to Negan. If this does turn out to be Dwight’s big betrayal reveal, it will have gone down differently in the TV adaptation but stayed true to the core story. In the comics, King Ezekiel introduces Dwight as a traitor on his Kingdom stage. Rick is reluctant to trust Dwight but the Saviors proves himself.

“I would love to do that, man,” Dwight actor Austin Amelio told ComicBook.com about the betrayal story arc. “Are you kidding me? That would be great. Of course. I think he’s going to do whatever he can do in order to hang onto Sherry in this moment in time. Betraying Negan or coming into power of some sorts would be a pretty epic maneuver if he can pull it off. I would love to see the emotion going through him if that were to happen, if it does happen.”

In the TV series, Dwight reached his breaking point when Sherry fleed the Sanctuary. Finding their old house with a note from his ex-wife pushed him over the edge. If anything is going to spark the sudden change of heart in Negan’s trusted Savior, it’s the loss of Sherry.

ComicBook.com tried to get the truth out of Dwight actor Austin Amelio of whether or not it was his character staring Rosita down in the final moments of The Other Side but the actor, of course, couldn’t share anything which would spoil next week’s episode

“You have to tune in,” Amelio said.

Amelio was, however, able to share a bit of how he imagines the reunion between Rosita and Dwight going down, assuming there will be one. Remember, Rosita’s first impression of Dwight was his arrow going through Denise’s face in Season 6 and, later, dumping her canteen when the Saviors marched into Alexandria for Episode 7×04

“It would not be a nice reunion,” Amelio said. “I’d try to maybe bring her maybe some beer. Talk it over. A little candle light dinner. ‘Sorry for emptying out your water bottle.’ Maybe I’d bring her some water.”

At least Dwight knows he has a good bit of making up to do.

The Walking Dead‘s Episode 7×14 (The Other Side) was focused on Rosita and Sasha’s mission to kill Negan but managed to slip some important moments of character growth into its run time.

Not only was Jesus’ sexuality revealed, along with some of his more personal burdens, but Eugene Porter seemed to reveal more of his true colors in The Other Side. Towards the end of the episode, Sasha and Rosita offered the false scientist a chance to escape and head back to Alexandria but he elected to run inside Negan’s Sanctuary and remain loyal to the Saviors.

Naturally, all of The Walking Dead‘s fanbase yelled at their screen in frustration as one of our beloved Alexandrian survivors appears to have truly betrayed us.

According to Eugene actor Josh McDermitt, he is just doing what makes him most comfortable and gives him not only the opportunity to survive but also eat as many pickles as his heart desires. Speaking to ComicBook.com ahead of The Walking Dead‘s PaleyFest panel, the actor shared his perspective of the moments from The Other Side.

“I think if Eugene is gonna do anything, he wants to do it on his terms,” McDermitt said. “I also think he’s comfortable living there. He’s scared all the time and a big source of that fear is coming from Negan so if he were to leave he would be just as scared because Negan’s gonna come after him. I don’t think he wants to leave. I don’t think he wants Negan to hurt anyone. I don’t think he wants his friends to get hurt but if he can live in the Sanctuary and just live in peace, he’s gonna take that over anything.”

Really, it’s the food which is winning Eugene’s heart. “I mean, look, they have pickles at the Sanctuary for crying out loud,” McDermitt said. “The last time we saw the pantry at Alexandria, it was empty. That’s why he didn’t leave! He’s a fat guy. He’s got food. He’s got pickles. He likes the sodium.”

With Sasha running into Negan’s Sanctuary and committing the first act of war, it’s likely Eugene will have to make a more defined decision in the near future. Will he remain loyal to the Saviors?

Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead was very much about Sasha and Rosita and their mission to kill Negan. However, before their journey began, a few other characters saw some major development with Maggie playing catalyst for both.

Not only did Daryl open up to Maggie about the guilt of Glenn’s death from the Season 7 premiere, Jesus discussed the feeling of belonging he has found since Enid, Sasha, and Maggie arrived at the Hilltop. In helping Rick’s group rally against Negan, the character has found a new sense of purpose which he did not previously feel while living under Gregory’s leadership.

With Jesus’ sexuality revealing the character to be gay, Payne says it will effect his role on the show “in no way, whatsoever.”

“I loved how that was handled in the show and it struck me that, I don’t know when the last time he shared that information was,” Payne said. “So, that shows a really nice relationship with Maggie. It’s such a small scene. I loved how in that small scene he spoke about being in a group home and he spoke about his boyfriends and revealed a lot about himself in a short amount of time which was really great. Obviously, this is the apocalypse, so if we’re worried about people’s sexuality, then it’s just ridiculous.”

As for whether or not Jesus will find love, Payne says, “there’s a chance,” although the choices are slim with a constantly dwindling population. “Who thought Richonne was gonna happen?” Payne points out.

It’s hard to think about a relationship when preparing for a war and that’s just what Jesus’ community is doing. Being trained by Maggie, Sasha, and others, the group is getting ready to stand up to Negan behind Rick’s eventual charge. Payne says the community is a “pretty good” fit for the army, before going on to call them “pretty tough.”

They’re pretty resilient,” Payne said, “They’re not like the Kingdomers who are doing route marches everyday and have body armor and stuff. It’s been going on for a long time at the Hilltop. It’s an imperfect situation that’s going to get worse. Gregory is a dangerous character who could, at any minute, screw everything over. I think they’ll be a good addition.”

Of course, the hottest topic coming out of The Other Side episode is Sasha’s fate, which was left ambiguously as she charged into Negan’s Sanctuary armed with a silenced pistol and a massive chip on her shoulder. This couldn’t have happened without Jesus allowing Sasha to carry out the mission after learning its existence in Episode 7×14’s early moments.

“Jesus isn’t someone to stand in anyone’s way, really,” Payne said. “Everyone has their own life and choices to make. He’s a good support. He wants to help people. If that’s what Sasha wants to do for her own peace of mind and her own sanity, if he knew she was gonna run to her death, if that’s her choice, that’s her choice. He says, ‘I’d rather you didn’t but I know that you will.’ You can’t stop that.”

Sasha is as dead as the last person to wear that necklace

Though we saw that Sasha was given Abraham’s necklace way back in Episode 5, Sasha had no way of knowing that the necklace had actually been made by Rosita. The necklace — which is made from a piece of broken tail light — was gifted to Abe by Rosita in Season 6, Episode 11, though he quickly lost it during the scuffle at the hilltop. It was also in this episode that Abraham realized that he was in love with Sasha, and the forgotten necklace kind of became a symbol of his relationship and past with Rosita, quickly discarded.

Rosita spotting the necklace was a pretty sad moment in Episode 14, however after Sasha sealed her fate by locking herself inside the Saviors compound, it seems she will probably end up as dead as the last person to wear the necklace. And if that does happen, hopefully the group never see the sight of that piece of cursed jewelry again.

2. The Saviors call walkers “dead ones”

Over the years we’ve heard a ton of different names for zombies (though, obviously never actually the word “zombie” for parallel universe reasons), including walkers, roamers, lurkers, geeks and biters. And this week we learned what the Saviors called them in a moment you would have had to be quick to miss.

The Savior-preferred moniker was confirmed as “dead ones” during the scene in which Rosita and Sasha hear Eugene over the walkie talkie. Eugene gives the order for more walkers to be gathered, saying: “This is Dr. Eugene Porter, Chief Engineer, speaking. I’m gonna need a dozen more walkers, a.k.a. ‘dead ones’ in the local parlance, for expanding the fence protocol PDQ.”

We actually also heard the name mentioned during Episode 11 when Dwight described how Sherry supposedly died (“She ran away from me right into a mess of dead ones, so, I, uh made it quick”), and while it’s not the most creative name, at least it’s descriptive!

Gregory has been welcomed at the Sanctuary

We all know Gregory is a total snake, but now that snake has directions to Negan’s base with a promise of a hassle-free entry. Up until now Gregory only knew where one of Negan’s outposts was based, but now that he’s got this new information he’s just become a huge threat to the groups’ plan.

Gregory going to Negan with all his knowledge of the survival of Maggie and Daryl, as well as Rick’s plan to take on the Saviors, could be absolutely disastrous for the group, but unfortunately it almost seems inevitable. Gregory is a massive coward and, much like Eugene, is basically out to ensure his survival by any means possible. Eager to please his evil overlord, Gregory may think that selling out Rick and Co to Negan will mean he’ll curry favor with Negan, but if he does that then I wouldn’t count on the residents of Hilltop looking upon him too favorably.
