Slayer to Release New Album ‘Repentless’ This Fall

Slayer’s first album since the death of founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman is due Sept. 11. It’s called Repentless and will drop via the label Nuclear Blast.

The legendary thrash metal band shared the news today (May 22) with a YouTube video. Check it out below:

Repentless was produced by Terry Date, who has manned the boards for acts ranging from Pantera to Smashing Pumpkins to Soundgarden to Bring Me the Horizon since the mid 1980s.

For Slayer, Repentless is the start of a new era. Hanneman died May 2, 2013 of liver failure, while rehabilitating from a flesh-eating disease called necrotizing fasciitis. That left guitarist Kerry King to take over much of his songwriting duties for Slayer’s 11th studio album. It will open with the title track, described as “The Hannemanthem” by King, along with a handful of other tracks that should be familiar to Slayer fans: “Atrocity Vendor 2015” (first released as a b-side to 2010’s “World Painted Blood” single), “Implode” (given away for free in 2014), and “When The Stillness Comes” (premiered on Record Store Day this year). However,Repentless will feature new recordings of all these tracks.

Repentless is also Slayer’s first album since drummer Paul Bostaph returned to the band in 2014. It follows Slayer’s 2009 album, World Painted Blood.

The band also has North American live dates lined up through Aug. 2.
