Rage Against the Machine Apologizes for the ‘Bullshit’ of Limp Bizkit

Is there some ‘90s-based guilt that you’d like to get off your chest? Maybe you found it was really easy to cheat at Pogs? Or you refused to wear your D.A.R.E. shirt because you were such a rebel?

Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford has some serious guilt to grapple with — some Limp Bizkit guilt.

“I do apologize for Limp Bizkit,” he announced in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “I really do. I feel really bad that we inspired such bullshit.”

He also seemed to not realize that Limp Bizkit is still very much an active band. “They’re gone, though,” he said.

Why does he feel responsible for Limp Bizkit? Well, they’ve covered Rage’s “Killing in the Name” many times, and Durst has said the song’s “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me” line inspired the rap-rock band’s very existence.

“There’s only one left, and that’s Rage, and as far as I’m concerned, we’re the only one that matters,” Commerford said.

The bassist also said he has no regrets for rushing the stage at the 2000 VMAs and climbing a prop in protest of a Limp Bizkit’s acceptance speech: “If I could do it all over again, I would’ve ripped that thing to the ground and shredded it.”

On the topic of present-day Limp Bizkit, Durst and company begin an extensive Russian tour on Oct. 25.

As far as we know, Rage still hasn’t issued a statement regarding the existence of Crazy Town.
