Phony Casting Call Asked Citizen’s To “PURGE”

The City of Buffalo and the Buffalo Niagara Film Commission are responding to a fake Facebook page that’s sharing false information about a movie shoot in Buffalo.

A Facebook page calling itself “The City of Buffalo,” posted on Tuesday that there will be an open casting call for “The Purge 4” at Buffalo’s MLK Park.

Tim Clark, from the Buffalo Niagara Film Commission, told WGRZ 2 on your side it is false information and that there is no movie shoot scheduled at the park.

it will take place on Staten Island involving a 90% black cast described as “the first experimental Purge.”

“I think Island is the most crowd-pleasing of the films,” writer and director of the three previous Purgefilms, James DeMonaco, recently told Vulture, who returns to write and produce the fourth. “It’s so kick ass in its third act. What’s fun, too, is there’s an anti-hero. More than the previous films, there’s a singular hero in this movie. This is one man’s journey, William, an anti-hero inspired by Eastwood in Unforgiven, so it’s this very cool, modern, kind of badass who redeems himself through the story.

“I was wondering how you get people to stay for the first Purge, and what they do is they start monetizing it,” DeMonaco said. “People from Staten Island can easily go to Brooklyn for the evening, so what they do is start promising very decent sums of money for the very poor people in the neighborhood. It becomes a monetization of murder and violence, incentivizing killing and keeping people around for them to be victims. So you see the inception of how grotesque the idea of the Purge is, the manipulation upon the society… In fact, some people don’t think anything’s going to happen and then there’s this great twist [regarding] how they manipulate the evening.”

The Purge: Island has a July 4, 2018 release directed by Gerard McMurray, and a Purge TV series is also in development.

filming in the Queen City started Monday.

Industry leaders say this could be the biggest movie Buffalo has seen yet.

Sources say this movie is the next installment in “The Purge” thriller series.

It is tentatively called: The Purge: Island. Cast and crew will be here through November shooting the movie.

Those in the industry say this could make more Hollywood noise than when Marshallwas filmed here last year.

On the first day of filming, News 4 saw crews unloading equipment near Clinton and Gorski in Buffalo. Crews unloaded lights and brought staff inside the Marcus Garvey Community Center.

They were also filming inside houses in the neighborhood. If you’re familiar with the series, this installment will actually be a prequel. The franchise is set in a sci-fi near-dystopia in an America where people are allowed to commit virtually any crime on a designated night of the year.

The movie being filmed here will be the fourth installment in the franchise.

The purge will employ hundreds of people, hundreds of extras and hundreds of vendors right here in the Western New York area.

Leaders say this will be one of the bigger, if not the biggest movie this community has ever seen.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting the movie should be released on July 4, 2018.
