Norman Reedus has harsh words for internet trolls slamming The Walking Dead

For AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” there is no end in sight. The show has been renewed for an eighth season, but that’s not all: AMC Networks President and CEO Josh Sapan believes “The Walking Dead” could easily last as long as “Star Trek,” which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. If that’s any indication, that means viewers are in for the long haul with “The Walking Dead,” but star Norman Reedus knows that the show won’t always please everyone.

On the red carpet for the “Garden of Laughs” benefit at Madison Square Garden, Reedus — who plays fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon — addressed the show’s critics. “I think too many people are on the internet, and everybody has a computer and everybody has an opinion, which is fine. But you gotta stop,” he told The Dirty. “If you don’t have too much violence, they go there’s not enough violence. Too much violence, there’s too much violence. You just have to tell the story sometimes.”

regarding which female character he’d like to play on the show

“Michonne,” Reedus affirmatively stated when asked which character he’d want to play on his show if he was a female. “Michonene because I would like to swing that sword around. That katana looks fun.”

As such, Reedus seems to acknowledge that the show isn’t universally beloved — but that’s okay. After all, though Season 7 has seen a deep in ratings, the show continues to pull in about 10 million viewers an episode, making it one of the most popular scripted series on television. That being the case, the show will likely continue to enjoy a long run on AMC.

Starring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride as Carol Peleteir, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Green, Danai Gurira as Michonne and many, many more, the Season 7 finale of “The Walking Dead” airs April 2 on AMC.
