Noel Gallagher Says He’s ‘Lost Millions’ Since Going Solo

His most recent record is the fastest-selling artist album of the year so far in the U.K., but Noel Gallagher claims to have lost “a fucking shitload of money” since his former band Oasis split in 2009.

“Everything I’ve done since I left Oasis has come from my own pocket,” the now solo singer told Loaded magazine.

“You’ve got to pay for the tour, got to pay for the wages and you don’t really break even for about nine months. I don’t mean I lost money. I mean I lost a fucking shitload of money. It was a few million, like. I had to lie to [wife] Sara [MacDonald] at first, and when I eventually did tell her, she freaked out,” Gallagher added.

Gallagher’s second solo album Chasing Yesterday – credited to Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – was released last month and debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. with combined sales of 89,000. The record, which features a cameo from The Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr, is released by Gallagher’s own Sour Mash imprint, with the songwriter telling Loaded that he “didn’t want to be signed to a record label.”

“I wanted to do it myself. Luckily enough it’s worked out,” stated Gallagher, who is about to embark on a sold out tour of South Korea and Japan ahead of a U.S. run of dates.
