New Ghostbusters details emerge as the film prepares to shot in Boston
Within the week Paul Feig‘s GHOSTBUSTERS reboot will begin filming in Boston (the story will still take place in Manhattan) and we’ll be introduced to a new team of Ghostbusters. Those wanting to know more about the film will be pleased to know that The Boston Herald has managed to sneak out a few new details of what we can expect. It’s all fairly harmless but the spoiler-sensitive among you may want to avoid what follows.
Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it’s being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.
Based on the above it seems as though this re-imagining won’t be treading too far from the original GHOSTBUSTERS; it also lines up with information we received earlier in the year. The Boston Herald also mentions that the production will be shutting down the financial district for three nights in order to film an epic ghost invasion of Manhattan. They also “reliably report” that Slimer will return but that cameo appearances by original Ghostbusters Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray are still up in the air. I’d be very surprised if Bill Murray does end up making an appearance but I suppose stranger things have happened.
As GHOSTBUSTERS begins shooting later this week for a July 22, 2016 release, I’d imagine that we’ll be seeing set-photos of the foursome in costume before too long.
