Lemmy Kilmister’s health forced Motörhead to cut another show short last night (Sept. 1). Three songs into the metal band’s set in Austin, Kilmister told the Texas crowd, “I can’t do it,” and left the stage. He returned shortly thereafter to apologize and explain: “You are one of the best gigs in America, and I would love to play for you, but I can’t,” he said [h/t Blabbermouth]. “So please accept my apologies. Next time, all right?”

Motörhead’s abbreviated Austin set comes days after the band cut their Salt Lake City set short after four songs, explaining the thin air made it difficult for the 69-year-old frontman to perform. The band then canceled its set at Denver’s Riot Fest, once again citing issues with the high altitude. Motörhead’s Austin concert was the next scheduled show on their tour.

In a Facebook post, Motörhead said the health issues in Austin were “a direct follow-on from the altitude issues in Colorado, and clearly, Lemmy tried to get back at it too quickly. For this reason, Motörhead will not play in San Antonio tonight [Sept. 2]. Lemmy will resume duties the moment he is PROPERLY rested and firing on all cylinders again.”

Kilmister, who is diabetic, suffered a hematoma in 2013. That health scare caused him to give up smoking and switch from his signature Jack Daniel’s to vodka.
