In the UFC 196 co-main event bantamweight champion Holly Holm put her title on the line for the first time when she took on Miesha Tate.
The fight started and they chose not to touch gloves. Right away Holm took the center of the cage. Tate tried for some leg kicks, but missed. Holm tried for a side kick, missed. Tate also missed with another leg kick.
Tate kept her distance. Holm landed a side kick to the body. Holm threw a kick, Tate caught it and almost got her down, but didn’t, then caught Holm with a big punch. Holm landed a good punch, it seemed to force Tate back for a moment almost losing her footing.
Another side kick landed for Holm. Holm came in with punches, then finished with another kick to the body of Tate.
In the second round Tate came out aggressive, but missed with her punch. Tate shot in and got the big takedown. She managed to move to half guard. Holm tried to get out of the position, worked to move towards the cage. Tate stayed on top, at one point attacked the arm for the submission. She landed some big elbows to the face of Holm. Tate managed to get to Holm’s back and locked in the rear naked choke. It looked extremely tight. Somehow Holm managed to survive the round. Missed opportunity for Tate.
In the third Holm circled on the outside. She caught Tate with a nice one two combo. Holm looked way more cautious this round, not wanting to get taken down again.
Holm looked to land her jabs and the occasional step kick to the knee of Tate. Holm landed a nice side kick to the body of Tate. Tate shot it, but Holm brushed her off.
In the fourth round Holm kicked the knee of Tate, but Tate grabbed it and looked to get a takedown. Holm reversed her and put Tate on the cage in the clinch. Eventually Holm broke away. Holm remained on the outside, using her kicks to keep Tate at a distance. Tate shot in, Holm sprawled, stood up and moved away.
In the final round Holm landed more kicks, to the leg and body of Tate. Tate had a touch time closing the distance. She tried to shoot in, but Holm easily brushed it off.
Tate moved in, pushed Holm to the cage, but Tate reversed and put Tate on the cage, then moved away. Tate again moved forward trying to grab Holm, but Holm moved away and spun out of it.
