Metallica Overhaul Website, Make Fan Club Free and Reveal Deluxe Vinyl Releases

There’s a lot going on with the champions of the Big 4! Metallica have completely redone their website, looking to give their fans the best possible experience. A post on the site reads, “We’re excited to provide you with a complete digital home for all the latest news and updates, over 30 years of history, photos and videos, and your new Fan Club community as we invite you to become the Fifth Member of Metallica.”

The best part? The fan club is now free! Fans who sign up will have access to exclusive content, contests and merchandise, discounts on merchandise, pre-sale tickets and free downloads. For signing up right now, you will receive a free download of Robert Trujillo‘s animated short ‘Tallica Parking Lot!

The thrash titans also announced the release of a 16-LP set that will include four shows from the band’s Metallica By Request tour. Last year, Metallica embarked on a unique tour that saw them play different sets each night with the setlist selected by fans who took part in an online vote.

The recordings were taken across the span of six months from all over the world. The first set is from Bogatá, Colombia on Mar. 16, 2014, the second from Helsinki, Finland on May 28, 2014, the third from Istanbul, Turkey on July 13, 2014 and the fourth from Montreal, Canada on Aug. 9, 2014. To see the setlist for each show visit Metallica’s web store, where you can also pre-order the entire set.

The 16-LP set will be available for $299 late next month and the Montreal set is on sale right now for $84.99. Don’t hesitate as only 500 copies have been pressed and there is a limit of two per customer. You can also watch an unboxing video of the Montreal set below.

Kirk Hammett recently revealed some details on the writing process for Metallica’s long-awaited new album. In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, the guitarist stated, “It’s heavy. We’ve got some heavy stuff going. It delivers on that front for sure. You know, I would say a lot of it is along the lines of Death Magnetic. A lot of it seems to be going along those lines.”

With this serving as just a quick comparison, he goes on to say there’s more to it than that, adding ,”But you know, with social media now and everything else, I’m a little bit wary to comment too much on the album, because then people pick up on it. Then, people think that that’s the final definitive statement on what this album is, or how much of it is done, or what it sounds like or whatever – and that’s not really the case. It’s not accurate. [Laughs.] We’re still working on it.”
