KEY & PEELE ARE DEVELOPING A STOP MOTION HORROR COMEDY WITH HENRY SELICK
This sentence wouldn’t have made sense two months ago, but Key & Peele’s Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele are becoming the new face of horror. Jordan Peele is already signed on to direct the horror-thriller GET OUT for Blumhouse, but the duo are reuniting for the stop motion horror comedy WENDELL AND WILD.
They’re developing the film with CORALINE and NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS director Henry Selick based on his original concept:
Two scheming demon brothers who must face their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly, and her two acolytes, the goth teens Kat and Raoul.
Selick and Peele will be co-writing the film, to be directed by Selick. He will be drawing influence from many “dark and twisty” tales:
We are who we are. Charles Addams cartoons, the original ‘Twilight Zone’ series, Ray Harryhausen’s stop-mo monsters, Disney’s ‘Night on Bald Mountain,’ Charles Laughton’s ‘The Night of the Hunter,’ the original ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ – these were the things that caught and held my attention as a kid. Used to be what I liked was a small percentage of what was being made. These days, everything is dark, darker, darkest.
Those are some solid influences, and these men all seem uncommonly dedicated to the marriage of the distinct horror, comedy, and animation genres. This should be an interesting one to follow as it develops. More on this story as it breaks!
