JOSH MCDERMITT SUGGESTS A DEATH FOR EUGENE ON THE WALKING DEAD

AMC’s The Walking Dead kills off major characters with some frequency, and at any given time there are usually at least a few characters I would like to see be the next to bite the dust. At this point in the show, with a war being waged between survivor communities, there might be more potential victims than ever before. There are members of the villainous community of Saviors that I’d like to see removed from the show. I’d to see the Scavengers, a.k.a. the Garbage Pail Kids, wiped out. Even some of the good guys are expendable in my eyes.

But the character I’d like to see die more than anyone else on the show is the cowardly traitor Dr. Eugene Porter, played by Josh McDermitt. Eugene turned his back on our heroes in the Alexandria, Hilltop, and Kingdom communities and joined the Saviors when the going got tough, earning him the top spot on my “This Character Must Die” list. He will remain on that list permanently.

Every week, McDermitt has been giving EW.com a behind the scenes look at the making of The Walking Dead, and in his latest article he mentioned how he would like to see Eugene go out if/when that day comes:

I told [Andrew Lincoln] and Greg Nicotero (resident badass) that IF Eugene were to die, I want to be choked out by Rick. Most actors have a “thing” — a look they can shoot to the camera, and that’s how they make their money throughout their career. For instance, Jack Nicholson flashes his smile and they hand him a giant bag of money. I think Andrew Lincoln’s “thing” is choking people in a scene. It’s so intense you think he’s really trying to choke the guy. And maybe that’s the secret? I don’t know.”

I have to agree with McDermitt, Eugene being strangled to death by Rick Grimes does seem like the perfect way for that character to meet his end. I would watch that with a big smile on my face. Hell, I would pay to see Eugene get killed by Rick. Make that a pay-per-view event and I would totally fork over some cash.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC on Sunday nights. This weekend’s episode will be season 8’s mid-season finale.
