Interview with Red Reign
Sofa King Cool caught up with with Red Reign and we talked about the remix of NOT THAT WAY and some new music coming soon, we talked upcoming shows and the future of touring and what is next for the band
Just like all touring bands, Richmond, Virginia-based rockers Red Reign were forced off the road for much of 2020. But the group (singer/guitarist Carlton “Bubba” McMichael, guitarist Stevie Shred, bassist Larry Moore, and drummer Sammy Lee) are getting back on track for 2021 – the first matter of business being the release of a “2021 remix” of their song, “Not That Way”
We are excited to release the ‘2021 remix version’ of ‘Not That Way’,” explains Sammy. “This is a song that keeps getting requested wherever we play, so the band decided to take the song and get it re-produced and remixed by producer/engineer Chuck Alkazian (Pop Evil, Soundgarden, Tantric) at legendary Pearl Sound Studios in Canton, MI. This will be the beginning step for a whole new campaign followed by the band releasing new music.”
“‘Not That Way’ is just a great rock and roll song. I remember when we wrote the song that, it just had that ‘IT’ factor. The lyrics are about a relationship, where 1 person in the relationship thinks they can do better and moves on. Years later, they run into the ex-partner who is flourishing and now realizes they made a mistake and wants another chance, BUT it’s ‘not that way’ anymore.”
So far, Red Reign has two live shows confirmed for 2021 (with more on the way), including a show with Jackyl on May 8th in Roanoke, VA, and a performance with Quiet Riot on November 6th in Woodford, VA.
Earlier, the band created a buzz with the release of a self-titled EP (the Maximum Volume Music site said “It sounds as if RR are a band that is ready and primed to make a move”). And Sammy offers his thoughts – “When you listen to the Red Reign EP you will find a song for each music listener, but we believe ‘Not That Way’ is for EVERYONE.”
And if all goes according to plan, 2021 will see Red Reign return to more roadwork and issuing new music (a follow-up to their aforementioned self-titled EP). “Moving into the summer and next year, we will be releasing new songs and will be playing as many shows as we can, wherever we can. Hope to see you soon in your city!”
