Guess Who’s Set to Return in Game of Thrones Season 6 …It’s Jon Snow
Now, with filming for Game of Thrones‘ sixth season already well underway, it’s not really all that surprising that we’re already seeing fairly major plot and casting reveals emerge from the set. After all, with a whole lot of the show being filmed on location, there’s really only so much that the show-runners can do when it comes to keeping prying eyes away.
The latest spot from the show’s Belfast – aka The North and The Wall – set, though, might just be the biggest confirmation yet of a very particular plot twist in season six. Y’see:
It Seems a Fan-Favorite Character WILL Be Returning
(Note, if you don’t want to know what (might possibly) be a major twist in Season 6, then this is the time to turn back. Here be SPOILERS, and all that…)
The reason for that particular suspicion? Well, widely respected fan-siteWatchers of the Wall is now reporting that a pretty darned substantial battle sequence is currently being filmed near Belfast. Specifically:
“Sources report that today Game of Thrones is filming portions of a massive battle in Saintfield, Northern Ireland, that will likely be a part of episode nine. Preparations and the beginning of filming were seen in that area recently, but it was difficult to glean many details. We’ve learned that the battle will involve many northern armies fighting including the Umbers, the Boltons, wildlings and more!”
Which, it seems, suggests that we’re set to see the Umbers – the Stark-affiliated Northern family that Osha and Rickon were last seen heading in the direction of – take on the Boltons, with a pile of Wildlings involved somehow. The reallyintriguing part, though?
“Kit Harington a.k.a Jon Snow was also seen at the location, participating in shooting this week.”
Or, in other words? Jon Snow is totally alive.
Which, as It Turns Out, Isn’t Actually All That Surprising
Y’see, not only has Kit Harington, who plays the heroic Stark bastard been repeatedly spotted in the vicinity of the Belfast set in recent weeks…
…but he also apparently just revealed to a Dutch magazine, Humo, that he’s set to appear in the show for quite a few seasons yet:
“The important thing is that I now know exactly how long I am still under contract, and in the meantime…Let’s just say that Game of Thrones will remain a part of my life for a while, I’ll probably be in my thirties when it’s over. One thing’s for sure: the day I’m no longer on Thrones is the day I’ll bury myself in movie projects (laughs).”
Which would seem to suggest we’re going to see a whole lot more of Jon Snow before too long.
How Will He Turn Up in Season 6, Though?
Well, there are several possibilities – with the fan-favorite source of his return still very much the magical resurrection-themed powers of the Red God (and specifically Melisandre).
In terms of his role, post-being brought back to life, though, there are a couple of fairly obvious ways that could go. Teaming him up with an incredulous Davos Seaworth would make for some interesting – and very Game of Thrones – buddy cop interplay, but it’s also entirely possible we could see him head off into battle alongside a whole heap of Wildlings.
It’s also, of course, entirely possible that we won’t see Jon until the final few episodes of the series – with the big reveal perhaps coming on the eve of that battle he was spotted being involved in. That would not only make dramatic sense, but would also allow Kit Harington to spend as little time as possible filming in Northern Island, thus allowing the show’s producers to maintain the conceit that he’s actually dead for a while longer.
The big question, though?
