GLENN HUGHES Forced To Postpone U.K. Tour Due To Illness

Legendary bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLEBLACK COUNTRY COMMUNIONBLACK SABBATH) has been forced to postpone his previously announced U.K. tour, which was due to start May 14 and run through May 24. According to a statement posted on Hughes‘s social media, “he needs to be treated for an illness that while not life threatening, must be dealt with immediately in order for it to not become a serious problem. He is expected to make a full recovery and be back on the road in June.”

Hughes recently told Guitar Interactive magazine that there are no plans for him to record a new solo album anytime soon. “I don’t see it happening for a while, because I’m so busy touring,” he said. “And it’s not like I don’t wanna do a record. I don’t think it’s the right time right now.”

Hughes, however, did not rule out a new album from BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, which also features drummer Jason Bonham, keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATERALICE COOPERBILLY IDOL) and blues-rock guitarist/vocalist Joe Bonamassa.

Joe and I are still very, very [musically] compatible, and we’re talking about [recording and releasing] an album next year,” Glenn said.

Hughes‘s latest solo album, “Resonate”, was released in November 2016 via Frontiers Music Srl. The record featured Glenn‘s then-solo band, Søren Andersen (guitars and co-producer), Pontus Engborg (drums) and Lachy Doley (keyboards), in addition to longtime friend Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), who joined them in the studio for the opening and closing numbers.

BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION‘s fourth album, “BCCIV”, was released in September 2017 and marked the band’s first studio effort since 2013’s “Afterglow”.

Hughes spent key years of his career as the beloved bassist and vocalist of DEEP PURPLE, appearing on the classic albums “Burn”“Stormbringer” and “Come Taste the Band”. More recently, he has been playing various hits and deep cuts from the DEEP PURPLE catalog, including “Burn”“Stormbringer”“Sail Away” and “Smoke On The Water”, as part of his “Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live” tour, which was launched in 2017.
