Funko Gives Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Pinhead, and Leatherface A He-Man make over

Freddy KruegerJason VoorheesMichael MyersPinhead, and Leatherface have been turned into toys many times, and usually the form these figures take is pretty close to their classic horror style. This time, however, they look like they could be masters of the universe, as Funko is giving them image makeovers in the style of ’80s He-Man action figures, complete with more medieval fantasy-style weapons.

There’s a touch of Evil Dead‘s Ash to Leatherface, as he now has a chainsaw arm that can be swapped out, Trap Jaw-style, for a hammer. Jason is now a zombie gladiator; Freddy is some kind of medieval warlock; Michael merely dons the workout version of his classic togs. And Pinhead? Well, let’s face it. In both name and appearance, Pinhead could already fit into the crazy world of Eternia, alongside such classic toy characters from the original New Adventures of He-Man line as Butthead and Slushhead.

Funko’s use of this figure style has been branded “Savage World,” and previously yielded a Mortal Kombat line. Granted, that was pretty faithful to “Klassic” designs, given that they’re already part of a fantasy element. This horror expansion shows that Funko is willing to put a unique spin on existing characters to fit the bill of an ’80s sci-fi barbarian narrative. As such, we can’t wait to see what they might do with other licenses they hold: The Golden Girls as princesses of power would likely be an instant hit, and buffed-out versions of Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas could be Skeletor and Evil-Lyn’s long-lost cousins.

Look for these figures to hit stores in September.
