Florence Welch Broke Her Foot at Coachella

“I still want to do the shows,” the singer writes of the band’s upcoming live dates.

Florence Welch, the leader of Florence + The Machine, has announced that she broke her right foot while jumping off the stage at Coachella. As a result, the group’s upcoming live dates will have to be “stripped back” for the next two months, although they may not be necessarily cancelled.

The singer announced the setback in a Facebook post, saying that she was “devastated” by the news that the promotional schedule of new album How Big How Blue How Beautiful, due out on June 2, will have to be rearranged. “I’m so sorry to say, that after what was one of my favourite shows ever at Coachella, I have discovered I have broken my foot from leaping off the stage,” Welch writes. “Unfortunately while this heals, my performances will have to be somewhat stripped back. … I’m so sorry, I’m pretty devastated, but I still want to do the shows. I understand this is not what you were expecting, but I hope its just as enjoyable. I’m going to try and make it super special for you.”

Florence + The Machine’s Captivating Coachella Return: Full Review

Welch adds that, “By the time Glastonbury rolls around I should be back on my feet. This album was so much about making something from what was broken, so lets see what we can do with this.” The Glastonbury festival takes place from June 24-28, and before that, Florence + The Machine have a handful of scheduled shows, including at Weekend 2 of Coachella and appearances at Governors Ball and Bonnaroo. No word on whether those dates are scrapped (a rep for Florence has not responded to Billboard’s immediate request for comment).

Florence + The Machine’s wildly energetic Coachella performance, which Billboard named the best of the entire weekend, included three songs from How Big How Blue How Beautiful, including new single “Ship To Wreck.” Watch the new music video for that track below:
