Dwayne Johnson to star in a remake of Big Trouble in Little China
When I woke up this morning I had no idea that one of the best cult classics of the 80’s would be heading for the remake train.
One of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s favourite films is BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA; in fact he loves it so much that The Wrap has reported that he’s currently under negotiations to star and produce in a remake of the John Carpenter classic. The writers of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, are already on board to write the script. Dwayne Johnson will play Jack Burton, the role which played to perfection by Kurt Russell in the original, an All-American trucker who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in San Francisco’s Chinatown.
BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA was originally released in 1986 where it received a mixed reaction and a very disappointing box-office gross; however, it thankfully found its audience in the years that followed and has enjoyed a well deserved following. If it were anyone else, I’d probably be rolling my eyes right about now; but Dwayne Johnson has that certain something that could make this project one of the few successful remakes. That said, remakes of John Carpenter‘s films have yet to lived up to the originals but I suppose there’s always a first time.
