Donald Trump Calls Neil Young a ‘Total Hypocrite’

Donald Trump just has to get the last word in.

Neil Young started things off when he called out the billionaire property tycoon for using his song “Rockin’ in the Free World” as the soundtrack to his latest Republican presidential bid without asking permission. Young made his feelings clear on the matter with a mix of statements and social media posts.

“Donald Trump was not authorized to use ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement,” said an official statement from Young’s camp after Trump’s June 16 launch. “Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for President of the United States of America.”

Trump, who is making his fifth run for the White House, has waited more than a week to get one back on Young. But that’s exactly what he’s done with a string of tweets in which he called the legendary rocker a “total hypocrite” and circulated a picture of the pair shaking hands like a pair of old pals. Young, he tweeted, had visited Trump Towers in recent months to secure funding for an “audio deal,” a line that alludes to Young’s Pono music venture.

If Trump had visited Young’s Facebook page last week, he’d have realized the singer had already clarified the circumstances of the photograph, pointing out it had indeed been taken during a meeting when he was trying to raise cash for his digital music project.

If Trump is looking for another Twitter beef, he might pursue J Balvin who has pulled out of performing at the Miss USA pageant following comments about Mexicans and Latins made by Trump, who owns the Miss Universe Organization in a joint venture with NBCUniversal.

Young won’t mind all the exposure. He’s currently promoting his new album, The Monsanto Years.
