Did Rob Zombie Just Announce A Sequel To The Devils Rejects?
We’re eagerly anticipating release news for Rob Zombie’s new horror film 31, which just premiered last month at Sundance. It’s headed our way real soon, and in the meantime, Zombie seems to be teasing fans with the possible return of his most beloved characters.
This isn’t the first time Zombie has expressed a desire in turning the Firefly clan’s story into a trilogy. Back in 2014, Zombie told Fangoria that he has an idea for a Devil’s Rejects follow-up that he’d love to bring to the screen, though he noted that the ball is in Lionsgate’s court, rather than his own.
“I’ve always thought I’d like to make another movie, because I love the characters, and I have an idea I think is solid for a third one – an idea that would make sense,” Zombie said back then. “The problem is, I don’t own the characters now. They’re owned by Lionsgate, and they just don’t have any desire to do anything. So it isn’t me not doing it because I don’t want to; I don’t have the ability to get it done.”
What’s interesting about the timing of Zombie’s latest tease is that Lionsgate seems hungry to revive successful franchises from the recent past, in light of financial troubles they’re going through. They just gave the green light to a new Saw film, so is it possible they now have the desire to bring the Fireflys back?
Or is Zombie just messing with our heads? Only time will tell!
