Derek Zoolander Can’t Grasp Movie Title in Hilarious ‘Zoolander 2’ Trailer

The hilarious first teaser trailer for Zoolander 2 has arrived, with Ben Stiller reprising dimwitted male model Derek Zoolander in the sequel to the cult 2001 comedy. As the two-minute preview clip reveals, it may be 14 years later, but the titular hero and “Blue Steel” perfector isn’t any smarter.

In the teaser, a Stephen Hawking-inspired voice tracks the creation and history of the universe, from the Big Bang to the dawning of man. The viewer then takes a trip inside Zoolander’s brain – filled with words like “eugoogly” and No Left Turn signs – before the camera finally settles on Stiller’s character, who asks “the one question that has puzzled mankind since the beginning of time”: “If God exists, then why did he make ugly people?”

The teaser also finds Zoolander struggling to grapple with the title of his own film. After encountering 2oolander, a nod to numeric film titles like Se7en and 2 Fast 2 Furious, the model asks, “Two-hundred-lander? I don’t spell my name with a two.” The Hawking impersonator then offers up Zoolander II, but Roman numerals further confuse the protagonist. “But I’m not Italian,” Zoolander says.

Zoolander 2 will arrive in theaters February 12, 2016 with returning cast members Stiller, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell joined in the sequel by new additions Penelope Cruz, Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen, Olivia Munn, Willie Nelson and Justin Bieber. Stiller will once again direct the film off a script by Tropic Thunder scribe and actor Justin Theroux. Stiller and Wilson first announced the sequel by reassuming their male model alter egos on the runway at Paris Fashion Week in March.
