David Bowie Shares New Song ‘Lazarus’: Listen

David Bowie has shared “Lazarus,” the second song lifted from the British legend’s forthcoming 25th album release.

Bowie is back to alt-jazz territory with his broody downtempo “Lazarus,” which runs at more than six minutes and is peppered with sax and dirty guitars.

“Look up here, man, I’m in danger I’ve got nothing left to lose,I’m so high it, makes my brain whirl. Dropped my cell phone down below. Ain’t that just like me?” he sings.

The official video for “Lazarus” will drop Jan. 7, a day before the release of its parent album ★ (pronounced “Blackstar”).

Bowie caught everyone by surprise with his 2013 album release, The Next Day. And when he dropped the 10-minute-long song “Blackstar” last month, he simply surprised. Listen to “Lazarus” below.

“Lazarus” shares a title with Bowie’s off-Broadway musical, which runs until Jan. 20 at the New York Theatre Workshop and is reportedly the only track from the album to be featured in the production. Michael C. Hall and other cast members of the musical are performed the song overnight on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Watch the performance below.
