Confirmed! NIGHTBREED TV SERIES OFFICIALLY COMING TO SYFY!
Morgan Creek is evidently looking to reboot their company from the ground up by rebooting some of their most well-known films. These films include ACE VENTURA, MAJOR LEAGUE, and YOUNG GUNS, along with such classic horror titles as DEAD RINGERS, DIABOLIQUE, and PACIFIC HEIGHTS.
Oh, and Clive Barker’s NIGHTBREED.
Yes, today we have word via Deadline that Morgan Creek has officially begun work on a TV adaptation of Barker’s classic 1990 film NIGHTBREED starring Craig Sheffer and David Cronenberg. Syfy is developing the series based on Barker’s short-story collection Cabal, and Morgan Creek Entertainment (who produced the 1990 movie) will be working alongside Universal Cable Productions to bring the NIGHTBREED show to the screen.

This story has been near to my heart for many years. I’m at beyond thrilled that SyFy and UCP are taking this journey with us, and I cannot wait to see it brought to life on the screen.
Screenwriter Josh Stolberg (JIGSAW, PIRANHA) will be adapting the script for TV. Stolberg previously adapted Barker’s 1987 dark fantasy novel WEAVEWORLD at the CW. No word on the future of that series.
NIGHTBREED explores
Race relations in America, only the races are Humans and Monsters. It follows a group of underground half-human/half-monsters seeking to find a new refuge and home after their original hiding place is destroyed. Leading these efforts is a recently turned reluctant hero who not only is adjusting to his new supernatural status but also is dealing with the grief and mystery surrounding the death of his fiancée. Will this group band together despite being hunted and persecuted by humans who find their “otherness” to be frightening?
Barker will be executive producing the series along with this Seraphim Films partner Mark Miller, along with Morgan Creek’s James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall.

I don’t know about you, but I think Clive Barker’s NIGHTBREED will make a terrific TV series. Not only that, but here’s hoping the series is such a hit that it brings Barker’s name back into the mainstream in a big way. That way we can (finally) get adaptations of some of his other works such as a horror anthology series based on his BOOKS OF BLOOD series. That’s what I’m hoping for with all my horror heart.
