Brand New’s Jesse Lacey Talks New Music, Possible Breakup
On Oct. 11 Brand New played its final scheduled gig of 2015. Frontman Jesse Lacey shared news with the Nashville crowd that can, at best, be described as bittersweet.
Over a five-minute monologue, Lacey hinted that the Long Island-bred cult heroes could be disbanding soon. The silver lining? They will try to release new music before all is said and done.
“This is the last show we’re playing this year and it will be the last show for a while,” he said. “There are going to be a lot of things different when we come back. I’m going to have a new daughter… and hopefully we have a record to play for you.”

Following a rousing round of applause, he went on to thank his bandmates, as well as his frequent tour partners Kevin Devine and Manchester Orchestra, while visibly holding back tears.
“I’m gonna tell you right here and now this isn’t going to last much longer,” Lacey said. “But it’s been so special for so long, and for as long as it does last we’re so grateful to all you for being here.”
Brand New hasn’t released a new album since 2009’s Daisy, though they released a killer new single earlier this year titled “Mene.”
Brand New has been together since 2000. While it looks like their run may be coming to an end, their many obsessive fans can at least take comfort in the likelihood of more new music and tour dates before it’s all over.
