We have all Heard About Guns N Roses, But What Other Bands Are Reuniting in 2016… Here is The List So far

Noel and Liam Gallagher might be reuniting for an Oasis comeback tour

OASIS

The band broke up after a bitter bust up between Liam and Noel Gallagher in 2009 but the brothers have finally put their differences behind them.

According to the Daily Star, Noel and Liam are in ‘serious talks’ with bandmates Andy Bell and Gem Archer to reunite for a UK arena tour next year.

A source told the paper: ‘Other bands have reunited and had a fantastic pay day so it makes sense for everyone involved.

‘It has been discussed seriously – it’s only a matter of time.

‘It is looking so certain it is worth betting on for next year.’

Since Oasis broke up, both brothers have gone on to find success with their own bands – Noel with High Flying Birds and Liam with Beady Eye.

Noel and Liam reportedly made up during a family wedding in Ireland in January.

Since then, Liam tweeted a picture of himself in March holding an Access All Areas pass at a gig for Noel’s band High Flying Birds.

Guns N’ Roses to Reunite for Coachella, Possible Stadium Tour

Guns N’ Roses, with original members Axl Rose and Slash, will headline the Coachella Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., set for April 15-17 and April 22-24, according to multiple sources. The reunited band is also negotiating with promoters to play as many as 25 football stadiums in North America in the summer of 2016, and is scheduled to be one of the first acts to play the new Las Vegas Arena, set to open April 6. Guns N’ Roses is said to be asking as much as $3 million per show, with tickets topping out in the $250-$275 range.

The last show Axl Rose and Slash played together was on July 17, 1993 at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires. Guns N’ Roses’ most recent tour, which only included Axl Rose from the original lineup, took place primarily in South America and The Joint in Las Vegas, grossing $15.2 million.

Representatives for the band, as well as Coachella producer Paul Tollett and agent Ken Fermaglich at United Talent Agency, could not be reached for comment. Executives at AEG, which will operate the new Vegas arena, also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The band’s first album, Appetite for Destruction, is the biggest-selling debut in U.S. history, with 18 million sold. It spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and launched the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” They have sold 44.5 million albums total in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

Billboard’s confirmation via insiders comes on the heels of two rumor-inducing hintsdropped over the past week, the first a cryptic update to the Guns N’ Roses website and the second during screenings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where footage of a concert crowd was shown with GN’R music overdubbed. Though longtime fans may be understandably wary after the decade-plus wait for Chinese Democracy, which became a totem of sorts to frontman Axl Rose’s sometimes unpredictable behavior, this reunion bears no sign of that record’s bumpy road.

Coachella has a pedigree for coaxing much-loved acts out of retirement, or being the linchpin to plans that had already been simmering. The fest has previously hosted the reunions of Rage Against The Machine in 2007, My Bloody Valentine in 2009, Pulp in 2012 and Outkast in 2014 — not to mention Tupac’s posthumous return to the stage in 2012. Guns N’ Roses will arrive a year after two other legendary acts, AC/DC and Steely Dan, headlined the 2015 edition. Last year’s edition drew 198,000 to the California desert, generating $84.2 million in revenue, according to Boxscore.

Dixie Chicks Reuniting In 2016

Dixie Chicks, one of the best-selling bands of all time, are getting back together next year for a string of European tour dates.

“Superstars, renegades, innovators, heroes, villains, and moms — for over a decade, the Dixie Chicks have grown from a band into a phenomenon, with over 30 million albums sold, Dixie Chicks are the biggest female band of all time in the U.S.,” reads apost on their website.

“The Dixie Chicks have announced that they will be returning to Europe to tour in 2016. Starting in Amsterdam, the tour will then head to the UK and Ireland to play arenas in Birmingham, Manchester, London, Glasgow and will culminate in Dublin.”

Since starting their off-and-on hiatus in 2008, this is the trio’s second tour. The first saw them playing Canada in 2013, but they’ve yet to tour the United States since their hiatus started (although they did perform at a Texas wildlife fundraise in 2011.)

Could this 2016 European tour mean U.S. dates are in the works? Let’s hope so — the Dixie Chicks haven’t toured America since 2006’s Accidents & Accusations Tour, which closely followed their Bush-bashing 2003 controversy.

And hey! If Jeb Bush nabs the 2016 Republican nomination, they have to tour the U.S. — alongside Hillary Clinton.

Underoath Announce Full 2016 Reunion Tour

Underoath

You didn’t think they’d stop at just one show, did you? Underoath, hot on the heels of announcing their return to the stage at the 2016 Self Help Festival, have now revealed a whole slew of new 2016 tour dates including an appearance at the South By So What Festival in Texas.

The trek is dubbed the “Rebirth Tour” and will find the band playing two of their most successful discs — They’re Only Chasing Safety and Define the Great Line — in their entirety.

Tim McTague says of the band’s reunion, “I think the thought of Underoath playing again seemed really exciting. We never thought we’d ever even want to play together again, much less be as excited to do so. It was a really cool feeling, and when discussing what this tour could be, it just felt right to play the two albums that our fans have held dearly for so many years. I think it’s going to be really special.”

“I hated the idea of Underoath being ‘over’ and I’m not sure what we are, but we are all friends again and that’s really the most important thing,” adds vocalist Spencer Chamberlain. “That being said, we felt like now is a great time to do a tour and celebrate Define The Great Line turning ten.”

Spice Girls

Girl power! Yes, if you love the Spice Girls, you should be very excited. The group is actually thinking about getting back together in 2016, as they’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first hit single. Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) let the secret slip during an interview. See what she said!

Emma hinted at the comeback when speaking to Now Magazine. She revealed that she recently met up with her former band mates, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) and Mel Brown (Scary Space), and talk of a reunion went from there.

“We love each other and we love performing together,” Emma said of her fellow Spice Girls. This, of course, lead to the inevitable question of a possible reunion, since 2016 will mark the 20th anniversary of their breakout hit, “Wannabe.”

“It’s just when the timing is right because we have our own careers now and we have families, it’s just about getting five schedules together and that’s all it is,” she said.

We’re totally crossing our fingers and hoping that the Spice Girls sort out their schedules in order to make this reunion happen. In addition to Emma, Geri and Mel B, they’ll have to get Victoria Beckham and Mel Chisholm (Posh and Sporty) on board, and do this reunion right.

The Spice Girls first gained international fame in 1996 with their hit, “Wannabe” and then continued their rise to stardom. In 1998, Geri left the group. As a four-piece, the Spice Girls continued until their first breakup in 2000. The group reunited in 2007 for a world tour, but disbanded a year later. They haven’t performed together since the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics, where all five reunited to perform a medley of “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life.”

LCD Soundsystem to reunite at Coachella 2016

LCD Soundsystem is set to reunite for Coachella 2016.

The news comes after rumours of a reunion were thoroughly quashed by label DFA earlier this year. Last week, however, James Murphy and company released a brand new Christmas song that marked a reunion of sorts. Now, according to the New York Times, they’ll take that momentum in 2016 with a full-fledged reunion at the California festival, which is already famous for reuniting bands. (They’ll do it alongside Guns N’ Roses.) Though representatives for both groups have declined to comment, the Times says the news comes from “a person with direct knowledge of the festival’s plans, who was not authorized to discuss it publicly.”

LCD Soundsystem officially broke up in 2011 with a farewell show in New York, which was later immortalized as a box set.

The festival is set to go down in Indio, California over two weekends: April 15th through 17th, and the 22nd through 24th.

Lush to reunite for gig in 2016

Lush in 1996 … Chris Acland, Miki Berenyi, Emma Anderson and Philip King.

Lush are to reunite for their first show since September 1996. The group are to play London’s Roundhouse on Friday 6 May 2016. “The opportunities and practicalities of reforming Lush meant that for 20 years it was an impossible undertaking,” said Miki Berenyi, the band’s frontwoman. “But we all loved what we did, and the time is finally right for us to do it again.”

The group’s return has been a badly kept secret, with both bassist Philip King and guitarist Emma Anderson having dropped very broad hints on social media. Anderson recently asked on Facebook for recommendations for a small Brighton gig venue, perhaps suggesting the band will be playing small warm-up shows before taking to the Roundhouse’s stage.

Lush formed in London in 1987, initially becoming successful as a “shoegaze” band. Their early releases, produced by Robin Guthrie, bore a resemblance to Guthrie’s band, the Cocteau Twins. For their final album, 1996’s Lovelife, they adopted a more straightahead direction, in keeping with Britpop, and the album produced three hit singles – Single Girl, Ladykillers and 500 (Shake Baby Shake).

The group stopped touring or recording in 1996, after drummer Chris Acland killed himself, though they did not announce their split until February 1998. Former Elastica drummer Justin Welch will join the group for the reunion.

Their return will be accompanied by reissued music. 4AD is to release a vinyl version of their compilation, Ciao!, in November, followed by a five-CD box set, Chorus. Chorus will include their early compilation, Gala, the studio albums Spooky, Split and Lovelife, and the B-sides compilation Topolino, plus unreleased tracks.

At The Drive In to Reunite in 2016

Famed post-hardcore band At The Drive In is reuniting in 2016, according to Consequence of Sound. They’re confirmed as performing at the Rock On The Range festival in Columbus, Ohio in May. (It’s a killer line-up, if you like hard rock, by the way.)

I miss ATDI like crazy. They were one of the first bands to show me what the progression of a music genre could look like. They g\never really broke through to mainstream, but I think that was kind of the point.

Of course, when the band broke up, they had a good bit of success through their respective bands The Mars Volta and Sparta. I enjoy both those bands A LOT, but there’s something fantastic about ATDI that only they can bring.

Ween To Reunite for Shows in 2016

After unceremoniously ending the band in an interview with Rolling Stone back in 2012, Ween have announced that they’ll be getting back together next year, at least for a few shows. On February 12 and 13, the quintet of arty jokesters will take the stage at Bloomfield, Colorado’s 1st Bank Center for their first live appearances since Aaron Freeman (a.k.a. Gene Ween) left the band. The band said in a statement announcing the shows that they are “going to be f**king mind-blowing” and that they will perform “new stuff that nobody has ever heard live before.”

Since the band’s dissolution, Freeman has spent time working on solo recordings, but its comforting to hear that for at least a few nights he’ll be returning to, as SPIN called them at the time of their collapse, “the ultimate freaks-and-geeks band.”

Busted announce reunion tour and new music for 2016

Busted

Busted have announced a reunion tour for 2016, 11 years after Charlie Simpson left and the band imploded.

The rock-pop boyband sold five million records at the start of the millennium, scoring number one hits with Year 3000 and What I Go To School For.

But Simpson walked out after a record-breaking 12-night engagement at Wembley Arena, saying his time in the band was “like torture“.

Busted will pick up where they left off, playing Wembley on 11 May, 2016.

The reunion was sparked by a road trip to Philadelphia, where the trio – Simpson, Matt Willis and James Bourne – recorded “three or four” new songs.

“I was astounded to find out James had actually been listening to a lot of the same music I’d been listening to,” said Simpson. “When I left the band in 2005, we were worlds away creatively.

“It was quite poignant to think that we’d landed 10 years later and there was some creative common ground.”

“It was just a really fun time,” added Bourne. “It felt like we were just hanging out with old, good friends.”

“I’m definitely looking forward to going back on tour,” says Morten. “I think it will be great. We will ensure that everything is right for us, and it is the ultimate a-ha experience.” Magne says that both the planning and the implementation of a good show or an extended tour are “an exciting challenge, but in the end everything is nothing without the positive response from the public. The magic lies somewhere in the space between them and us.”

The Stone Roses Reunite for 2016 Concerts

The band’s lineup will be Ian Brown, John Squire, Gary Manny “Mani” Mounfield, and Alan “Reni” John Wren. The group first reformed in 2012, when they played dates in Manchester and at various global festivals. On that occasion, 220,000 tickets for the Manchester shows sold out in 68 minutes.

Bay City Rollers are back

It’s not Bye Bye Baby from The Bay City Rollers as the band are set to make a comeback.

More than 40 years after they first formed, Les McKeown, Alan Longmuir and Stuart ‘Woody’ Wood are preparing to launch a UK tour.

The band – who sold an estimated 70 million records – announced the news during a press conference at the Grand Central Hotel,

Sledgegrinder Reuniting For 2016 Tour Dates

fter breaking up back in 2012, Florida’s Sledgegrinder has issued the following brief announcement about getting back together:

“Sledgegrinder is back in business. We have been in and out of discussing a reunion for over a year now and the time has finally come. Sledgegrinder will hit the stage in 2016.

Gorillaz Reunion Confirmed By Jamie Hewlett

In 2012, the future of Gorillaz looked to be uncertain. The cartoon band had just released The Fall and would team with Andre 3000 and James Murphy for“DoYaThing.” However, ringleader Damon Albarn and resident animator Jamie Hewlett just couldn’t agree on a singular vision, then a full decade after Gorillaz’s 2001 debut single “Clint Eastwood.”

“I think we were at cross purposes somewhat on that last record, which is a shame,” Albarn said, adding that they weren’t on speaking terms either.

Now, as Hewlett confirms, Gorillaz is back on. On January 30, he posted a few portraits of bassist Murdoc Niccals (above, voiced by British comedian Phil Cornwell) and lead guitarist Noodle (voiced before by Cibo Matto’s Miho Hatori and Talking Heads’ Tina Weymouth) on Instagram. Stereogum points out that in the comments of one, he said, “Yes. Gorillaz Returns.”

Granted, Hewlett didn’t break this news — Albarn did, when he said last year that he was “in the process of reactivating” Gorillaz and aiming for a 2016 release. With Hewlett showing that he’s on board too, though, a Gorillaz reunion now seems all the more real.
