As More & More Bands Are Coming Out of the Shadows To Speak Out Against Phil Anselmo Here is The Complete List To Date

Former PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo has denied being racist after a new video surfaced of him giving the right-arm salute and yelling a white-supremacist slogan at a California concert.

Anselmo took part in last Friday’s (January 22) Dimebash event at Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood and ended the show by giving what appeared to be a Nazi salute and screaming the words “white power” to the crowd.

A YouTube user by the name of Chris R posted a clip of Anselmo‘s end-of-concert gesture (see below) and added the following note below the video: “I originally cut this from my first post of‘Walk’ but I feel people deserve to see this! A very sad moment and to me ruined the night! This is not what PANTERA is about!!! Absolutely uncalled for and I can see why Vinny Paul [sic] wants nothing to do with this man. Phil Anselmo you are a Racist prick!!”

After the clip started making the rounds earlier today, Anselmo himself responded to the controversy by adding the following comment below the video in question (posted fromAnselmo‘s Housecore Records YouTube account): “Ok folks, I’ll own this one, but dammit, I was joking, and the ‘inside joke of the night’ was because we were drinking fucking white wine, hahaha… Of all fucking things.”

He added: “Some of y’all need to thicken up your skin. There’s plenty of fuckers to pick on with a more realistic agenda.

“I fucking love everyone, I fucking loathe everyone, and that’s that.

“No apologies from me.

“PHA ’16”

This is not the first time Anselmo has made comments from the stage that have been perceived as racist. At a March 1995 PANTERA concert at Montreal’s Verdun Auditorium,Anselmo babbled forth in a stream-of-consciousness rant, uttering statements that included “rap music advocates the killing of white people.” The Montreal Gazette reported on the incident, causing an international flurry and resulting in Anselmo releasing an open apology, stating: “I must take responsibility for the harmful words that may have racially offended our audience. First, to the black girl who has seen PANTERA six times, thank you for telling me how upset you were at me; it made a difference and I was very sincere with my apology. Second, I’d once again like to apologize to the security guards at the show. They were classy and professional, and came to talk to me after the show when they really didn’t need to at all. They opened my eyes. And yes, they were black men. I have much respect for them. I extend my apologies and a thank you to them.”

In an August 2003 interview, Anselmo scoffed at the perception that he is racist. He said: “I’m anything fucking but. I know there’s shitty people and beautiful people on both sides of the spectrum — black and white. And I know for an absolute fucking fact there’s good Middle Eastern people who live here. And I know there’s good Oriental people. But if I’m writing a song and it has to touch on the negatives of certain issues, I’m not gonna beat around the fucking bush and fence-ride — especially with SUPERJOINT [Anselmo‘s then-main band]. Before, with PANTERA, I had to be slightly careful. Now I don’t. And I can see from the enthusiasm in the audiences that we’re on our way to something extremely relevant — something on top of anywhere anybody thinks we might go.”

The gloves are off! Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn just called out Philip Anselmo (Pantera, Down) for his actions at the Dimebash, and revealed that earlier in the night Anselmo told him he “hated the nigger era of Machine Head.” This video is a must-watch.

Yesterday, footage surfaced where Pantera frontman Philip Anselmo controversially raised his arm in the Nazi salute, a sieg heil, and shouted “white power”into the audience at the very conclusion of the “Dimebash,” a tribute to late guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. Yesterday, Anselmo commented on the video saying he’d “fess up” to being drunk and saying it was an inside joke because he and a few people had white wine backstage.

Machine Head’s Robb Flynn was also at the Dimebash this past weekend, and Flynn made some shocking revelations, namely there was no white wine at the ‘bash:

I was there and I could tell you there wasn’t a chardonnay or a pinot grigio in sight backstage. In fact, the only thing that you were drinking, Phil Anselmo, was Becks German beer. Maybe that’s where the joke came from?

Flynn also revealed that earlier in the night, he spoke to Anselmo and within five minutes Anselmo told Flynn that he “hated the nigger era of Machine Head,” and he hated the sound and the look. Flynn also mentioned that during “A New Level,” he noticed Anselmo again do the sieg heil and mouth “white power.” The gloves are off and this whole video is a much watch:

Not Phil’s first brush with controversy Here Is A Quote From Phil from a 2008 interview

Anselmo: I never heard that I was back on drugs; that’s fuckin’ ridiculous. That’s fuckin’ stupid. But fuck everybody, really. I’m livin’ my life, I’m doing exactly what the fuck I want to do… I’m not out to fuckin’ impress, I don’t give a shit, man. And people… I mean look, I’ve been… gay, my neck’s been broken from stage diving, I’ve been everything — a satanist, a white supremacist…

Ex-MACHINE HEAD Drummer Says ROBB FLYNN And PHILIP ANSELMO Are Both ‘Dumbass Self-Centered Blowhards

Former MACHINE HEAD drummer Chris Kontos has slammed Robb Flynn and Philip Anselmo in the aftermath of last week’s incident when the ex-PANTERA singer made a “white power” gesture onstage at a concert.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic “Walk” at the January 22 “Dimebash” event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his former bandmate, late PANTERAguitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say “white power” as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an “inside joke.” Anselmo has since released a video message, saying that he “deserves completely” the “heat” that he has been getting over his actions and claiming to be “a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what [he] said.”

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, includingFlynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he calledAnselmo a “big bully” and described Philip‘s behavior as “fucking wrong.”

Now Kontos has stepped forward to offer his opinion on the matter, saying that both Flynnand Anselmo are “fucking dumbass self-centered blowhards” who “seem to be full of crap.”

In a public post on his Facebook page, Kontos writes (slightly edited for clarity): “Sorry, Phil, but this is the end. I knew I saw this photo of you backstage with the white wine in your hands before you went on stage at Dimebash and processed to shout ‘White Power’ at the top of your shattered voice and gave the Nazi salute TWICE!. Your stupidity and racism once again has collided in your mouth and then into the world via your microphone. I knew I saw this picture with the wine…when I read your flippant and weak statement about how it was a joke about drinking white wine backstage I was fucking disgusted and dismayed at your stupidity on levels I have no words for. I bet you DID mean it as a joke…because you are flat-out dumb-as-a-stump racist, I bet this would be funny to you.

“There is the ‘White Power Wine’ right there in your hands. People are saying (Robb Flynn) that NO white wine was backstage at Dimebash…well, there it is. Not Beck’s beer… I saw this photo the day of the show…and thought to myself how nice to see you and Rita [Haney, Dimebag‘s longtime girlfriend and one of the Dimebash organizers] toasting Dime (‘the Pink beard in the sky,’ as it said in the caption below it) before the show. Well, after seeing the vid clip of your dumb ass and then reading your statement, I remembered the photo. Still, you have to be crazy or just so out of touch with the world and are completely racist to think that a joke would be fun OR a way to honor Dime… or is there more to the story we just don’t know aboutPANTERA and how the band really feels about racism?

“Then I watched Robb Flynn‘s response to the whole thing…and I must say he was well spoken and shared true feelings. He said that he had spoken with Phil that night and that Phil said to him ‘I hated the ‘n*gger era’ of MACHINE HEAD…every minute of it…with that look’ and Robbsaid that he laughed In Phil‘s face… really?

“Now, if Phil had said that shit to me before I was to go back him musically… no fucking way would I get on stage and perform with the guy. I’ll tell you that much. Phil may be big and badass with his mits and all…but I would have had a fucking straightener with Phil right then and there, trust every bit of 6′ 227 lbs of jiu-jitsu drum-crushing BMX smashing me on that… Bullies don’t faze me…

“That brings me to this point… It also made me think about my post about the MACHINE HEAD stage dressing these days… and how Nuremberg Nazi Rally it really is.

“Words and imagery are very strong forces. The messages you send or speak make a huge impact on the world. I was not going to say anything, but then I felt a strong feeling of duty to make a statement as I have stood AGAINST racists and nationalist hate movements my whole adult life. These two guys leave me baffled as they both seem to be full of crap.

“I respect Robb for admitting using the word n*gger… but he is not thinking or maybe just too stupid himself to think about the truly anti-Semitic and Nazi messages his stage show sends to world and Jews as well as Holocaust survivors and their families. I find the whole thing very disturbing and I have to question why, if Robb knew about how Phil is and his views on race and the comments made before going on stage, then why he would still play up there…. Was playing with Dave [Grohl] and Robert [Trujillo] that big a deal that you would turn a blind eye to the fact you know this info and insight on Phil so you could get in on some kind of ‘I’m big like these guys too’ kind of thing?

“I think you are an opportunist and are full of shit.

“I’m of mud race and proud of it.

“I think that we ALL do better when we all do BETTER in this life.

“So sorry but you both are fucking dumbass self-centered blowhards…. both of you have your foot in your mouth right now in my book.”

Kontos played on MACHINE HEAD‘s debut album, 1994’s “Burn My Eyes”, before being replaced by Dave McClain.

DIMEBAG’s Girlfriend Accuses ROBB FLYNN Of ‘Masking His Real Problem’ In Wake Of ‘White Power’ Uproar

Late PANTERA guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott‘s longtime girlfriend Rita Haney has blastedMACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn for taking “a hideous opportunity to hop up on a soap box” after ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a “white power” gesture onstage at a concert last week.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic “Walk” at the January 22 “Dimebash” event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of Dimebag. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say “white power” as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an “inside joke.” Earlier today,Anselmo released a video message, admitting that he “deserves completely” the “heat” that he has been getting over his actions and saying that he is “thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what [he] said.”

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, includingFlynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he calledAnselmo a “big bully” and described Philip‘s behavior as “fucking wrong.”

Now Haney, who was involved in organizing this year’s “Dimebash”, has come out in support of Anselmo, saying that “Philip has owned his mistake” and accusing Flynn of “mask[ing his] real problem with something very important and very serious.”

Haney‘s entire statement follows (slightly edited for clarity):

“So to answer all of you that have asked, and for those who didn’t, read if you like, but if not, don’t…

“I think there is really only one thing to say when a man apologizes: ‘Thank you for acknowledging you were wrong.’ The one apology I am missing is the one from Mr. Flynn.

“You took a ‘hideous’ opportunity to hop up on a soap box because you were butthurt about your personal encounters with Philip that night. You sent me a text message about it in the wee hours of the morning, and it did not have anything to do with racism.

“I support the message you were trying to put out there, but not the method behind your message… You masked your real problem with something very important and very serious.

“You said to me, ‘What would Darrell do?’ He would have done exactly what was right… Speak to Philip man to man (like you described you witnessed at one time)… Not jump up in the press and hurt their music, our whole family and organization.

“The last time I checked, PANTERA was not one man. Rex [Brown, bass], Vinnie [Paul Abbott, drums], and Darrell brought us that music too… Now Philip has owned his mistake.

“Things ARE different today with racism and reverse racism. And you were not just dropping ‘bombs’ in your 20s. You weren’t calling the kettle ‘black’ not too long ago, just as I have been guilty of myself!!!

“There was wine along with many other bottles. There was lots of joking around about Dave Chapelle with one of our best friends, Dug Pinnick [of KING’S X] and there were emotions that no one could understand, or experience about Darrell, that only his brother, Philip and Rexunderstand.

“It is a very heavy situation when any of us come together… Indulging happens… None of these things can excuse that behavior though. But what happened on the stage was regretfully felt by one man…

“All jokes aside and on a serious note… As far as the two words and gestures are concerned, on such an amazing and beautiful night… NO!!! I do NOT condone these actions. I believe their origins are barbarically hideous and embarrassing.

“I have accepted Philip‘s apology as I want a better world to live in.

“The message is a ‘true’ message, Robb, but sadly your method was not.”

nazipunksfuckoff

All Shall Perish have joined Robb Flynn in calling out Phil Anselmo’s recent actions at Dimebash, where he gave the Nazi salute, inexcusable.

The band just posted this to their Facebook page:

We consider Pantera to be the single greatest metal band of all time, but we should never be afraid to call out our heroes. Seeing Phil’s actions and his cowardly justification is not only disgusting and inexcusable but antithetical to the punk, metal, underground ethos to which we subscribe. No gods, No masters, and certainly no master race. Any justifications or cries of “reverse racism”, BET, Double standards, PC Police, Or general white whining are just profoundly ignorant of history, systemic effects, and the lasting impact of state sponsored racism, Jim crow, segregation and slavery. Talk with your black friends, if you have any, and try to gain some perspective. There has never, nor will ever, be a true incarnation of “reverse racism” until white people are swinging from trees en mass, sold into torture, defined in the constitution as 3/5th’s a person, denied from public institutions and forcibly segregated from society. In the face of what an actual tit for tat reprisal would look like, affirmative action and understanding the significance and context of displaying black pride seem the least the multi-generational benefactors of being the master race can muster. Racism and its institutions are a stain on American culture; likewise, Phil’s actions are a stain on the legacy of Pantera, Dime’s memory and the metal community as a whole.

New EVANESCENCE Guitarist Blasts PHILIP ANSELMO’s ‘White Wine’ Excuse, Says Racism Has No Place In Metal
New EVANESCENCE Guitarist Blasts PHILIP ANSELMO's 'White Wine' Excuse, Says Racism Has No Place In Metal

New EVANESCENCE guitarist Jen Majura has weighed in on last week’s incident when ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a “white power” gesture onstage at a concert.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic “Walk” at the January 22 “Dimebash” event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his former bandmate, late PANTERA guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a “big bully” and described Philip‘s behavior as “fucking wrong.”

Now Majura has offered her opinion, posting a two-minute video message in which she says Anselmo “behaved like a stupid dork with a very, very asshole-like attitude” and calls his “white wine” excuse “lame.”

Majura said (see video below): “I’ve never been a big fan of reaction posts or YouTube comment videos and stuff like that, but after I saw this, I can’t just shut my trap and say nothing. Especially me, as a half-Asian living in Germany, I just have to say something now.

“Metal, from my personal understanding, is more than just music; it’s a lifestyle. And ever since I got [into] the metal scene, it’s always been like a friendly community. You never experience hate stuff going on from metalhead to metalhead, like, ‘Ewww… You’re listening to SLIPKNOT. How can you do that? I hate you for it. Now you will have to listen to… whatever.’ Stuff like that doesn’t happen in metal. And I think especially the topic racism has absolutely no point in metal, in music, in life, on stage, backstage, wherever; there should be no point at all for this topic. I mean, we’re living now, not, like, a hundred years ago.

PANTERA had always been a big, big influence for a lot of musicians, and they still have a lot of young people following them. Obviously, this band has a front dude who is behaving like a stupid dork with a very, very asshole-like attitude. And I’m not afraid to say that, because it’s just wrong. You can’t be on stage and behave like that with that greeting and ‘white power.’ And then, even afterwards, telling something about white wine? That’s lame. That’s lame. That’s stupid. And it’s not correct to behave like this. So if this is his real opinion and his real way of thinking, I just have one thing to say: Phil Anselmo, fuck you!”

Majura made her live debut with EVANESCENCE last November. She has previously played with the German metal bands EQUILIBRIUM and KNORKATOR.

THE BLOODLINE/DIVINE HERESY Singer To PHILIP ANSELMO: 'F**k You, And F**k Your Apology'

Travis Neal (THE BLOODLINE, DIVINE HERESY) has weighed in on last month’s incident when ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a “white power” gesture onstage at a concert.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic “Walk” at the January 22 “Dimebash” event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his former bandmate, late PANTERA guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a “big bully” and described Philip‘s behavior as “fucking wrong.”

Now Neal has offered his opinion, posting a message on his Facebook page in which he calls Anselmo an “asshole” and says that “there is no room for racism or hate.”

Writes Neal in his post: “Fuck this guy! Damn shame when someone that has paved the way for so many and so many looked up to and still look up to would do this and shit on Dime and a tribute to him by so many great musicians that respected and loved him and his band. It is okay to be proud of who you are and where you come from but not the way that this asshole did on stage. Fuck you, Phil, and fuck your apology! We live in 2016; there is no room for racism or hate. If we as a human race want to remain, then we all need to unite. One world, one blood, we are all one!”

THE BLOODLINE‘s debut album, “We Are One”, was released last May via Another Century. The CD was recorded in 2014 with producer Joel Wanasek (RIGHTEOUS VENDETTA, VINYL THEATRE).

ANGRA 'Deeply Disapproves' Of PHILIP ANSELMO's Actions At 'Dimebash'

Brazilian metallers ANGRA have weighed in on last month’s incident when ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a “white power” gesture onstage at a concert.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic “Walk” at the January 22 “Dimebash” event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his former bandmate, late PANTERA guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a “big bully” and described Philip‘s behavior as “fucking wrong.”

Now the members of ANGRA have offered their opinion, posting a message on their Facebook page in which they say they “deeply disapprove” of Anselmo‘s actions and expressing hope that “this kind of attitude is more and more exposed and opposed.”

ANGRA‘s statement reads as follows: “We at ANGRA are sorry for and deeply disapprove of vocalist Phil Anselmo‘s attitude a few days ago. As PANTERA fans, the disappointment is even greater because we are against any act of discrimination. We sincerely hope that this kind of attitude is more and more exposed and opposed, so that we can keep on moving towards a more dignified, fair and equal world.”

ANGRA features in its ranks guitarist Kiko Loureiro, who joined MEGADETH last year as the replacement for Chris Broderick.

ANTHRAX’s Scott Ian Calls Phil Anselmo’s Actions “Vile,” Suggests He Donate To Racism & Holocaust Education

The fallout from Phil Anselmo’s grand mistake at the Dimebash of giving the Nazi salute and shouting white power continues. Anselmo has since offered a full apology for his actions, and while some are saying “see, he’s sorry, let’s move on,” it shouldn’t be seen as the final step in the road to redeeming his public image, but only the beginning.

No matter how you slice it, joke or otherwise, what Anselmo did was wrong and not indicative of metal culture as a whole. And people in the scene, including Machine Head’s Robb Flynn and All Shall Perish, are speaking out. Today, one other notable musician spoke out, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian. It’s no secret Ian is of ye Jewish faith and Ian encouraged Anselmo to take further steps to correct his wrongdoing by donating to some anti-racism charities:

SEBASTIAN BACH: ‘People Who Say ‘White Power’ Are Pussies As Are Those Who Agree. Or Remain Silent”

Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach has chimed in on the debate surrounding last week’s incident when ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a “white power” gesture onstage at a concert.

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, includingMACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a “big bully” and described Philip‘s behavior as “fucking wrong.”

Now Bach has offered his two cents, tweeting: “Rock is supposed 2B fun. Perverting music N2 hate? NOT fun. People who say White Power are PUSSIES. As r those who agree. Or remain silent”

Back in 2004, Bach stated about his SKID ROW‘s first North American headlining tour, which featured PANTERA as the support act: “As a metalhead first and foremost myself, it was an absolute dream to stand on the side of the stage every night witnessing PANTERA‘s rise to fame, night after night, city after city. To have those crazy fuckers as my friends was something I will never forget.

“A month or so into the tour, PANTERA released ‘A Vulgar Display Of Power’. Prior to this, the band was touring with us without a new album to support. But when ‘Vulgar’ came out after touring the USA with us for a month or so, the album came straight into the Billboard charts in the Top 40 and remains to this day one of the greatest albums of all time. The day after it came into the charts, we were playing Vancouver and Phil walked straight into our dressing room [and said], ‘Hey, Bierk. I want a leather couch, full lights, full stage, sound check, blah blah blah.’ He was joking around with a list of demands due to the ‘new level’ that he was now on. It was hilarious and we were all laughing, but the point was made. PANTERA was now a big fucking band and from here on out, it was nothing but onward and upward for PANTERA.”

PHILIP ANSELMO Says He Is ‘A Thousand Percent Apologetic,’ Asks For ‘Another Chance’

Former PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo has apologized for the apparent “white power” gesture he made onstage after his appearance at Dimebash last week.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic “Walk” at the January 22 event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his late bandmate “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say “white power” as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an “inside joke.”

Several notable musicians have since come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a “big bully” and described Philip‘s behavior as “fucking wrong.”

Now Anselmo has released a video message, admitting that he “deserves completely” the “heat” that he has been getting over his actions and saying that he is “thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what I said.”

Anselmo‘s statement in full (see video below):

Philip H. Anselmo here, and I’m here to, basically, respond to all the heat I’ve been getting that I deserve completely. I was at the Dimebash and it was extremely late at night [and] there was heavy-duty talk between myself and those who love Dime. And heavy emotions were flowing, jokes were made backstage that transpired upon the stage, and it was ugly, it was uncalled for. And anyone who knows me and my true nature knows that I don’t believe in any of that; I don’t wanna be part of any group. I’m an individual and…

“I am a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what I said, because youshould have taken offense to what I said. And I am so sorry, and I hope you just… Man, give me another chance to… Just give me another chance. I love all of you. And anyone who’s met me, anyone who knows me knows that I love all of you. Bless you.”
