Alice Cooper, Aerosmith‘s Joe Perry and actor Johnny Depp’s Hollywood Vampires Reveal Special Guests + Album Details

Hollywood Vampires began with Alice Cooper, Aerosmith‘s Joe Perry and actor Johnny Depp, but has evolved into a full-on group with an all-star lineup of special guests.

As for the name, it comes from the original drinking club that gathered at the upstairs bar of Hollywood’s Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip. Cooper was a founding member of the club in 1972 with attendees like John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon, Bernie Taupin, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz among those partaking. Cooper recalls, “To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members.”

Cooper and Depp reportedly decided to revisit the spirit of the camaraderie of those days and do an album of rock covers with special guests. With Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry in tow, the trio sought out a number of musical friends, including AC/DC‘s Brian Johnson, Sir Paul McCartney, Perry Farrell, Dave Grohl, Slash, Joe Walsh, Robbie Krieger, Zak Starkey and Kip Winger. The album also comes with a spoken introduction called “The Last Vampire” done by Sir Christopher Lee, recorded just shortly to his death.

The lead single for the album is a medley of Cooper’s own “School’s Out” with Pink Floyd‘s “Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2. The song was recorded with Cooper and Brian Johnson sharing vocals, Slash, Joe Perry, Johnny Depp, Tommy Henriksen and Bruce Witkin on guitar, Neil Smith on drums, Dennis Dunaway on bass and backing vocals from Kip Winger and producer Bob Ezrin.

The disc also includes covers of songs from The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix and more. Check out a teaser for the album above and see who played what on what song in the track listing below. Look for the Hollywood Vampires album arriving Sept. 11, with all artist proceeds going to the MusiCares organization.
