A BRIEF BUT EFFECTIVE TEASER FOR MARTIN SCORSESE’S NEW HBO SERIES, VINYL

The last time Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter‘s teamed up with HBO, they produced the wonderful yet under-appreciated Boardwalk Empire; their latest collaboration is Vinyl, a new drama series which will explore the drug and sex-fueled music business through the eyes of a record executive trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound. In order to guarantee an added slice of authenticity, Scorsese and Winter have brought on Mick Jagger as an executive producer.

A very brief teaser has been released via the show’s Instagram page, and while it doesn’t show off any of the actors it does effectively summarize what the series will be about: sex, drugs, music, and filthy floors.

Vinyl stars Bobby Cannavale as Richie Finestra, the founder and president of a top-tier record label, American Century Records, and Olivia Wilde will play his wife, Devon, a former actress/model who lived a Bohemian life in 1960s New York. Ray Romano (wait, really?) appears as Zak Yankovich, one of Richie’s partners and the Head of Promotions for American Century and Juno Temple plays Jamie Vine, an ambitious assistant who hopes to break through the glass ceiling and get ahead at the record label. Andrew “Dice” Clay, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, James Jagger, Jack Quaid, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Bo Dietl, Robert Funaro, and Joe Caniano round out the rest of the cast.

Terence Winter will serve as show-runner and writer and much like Boardwalk Empire, Martin Scorsesehas kicked off the series by directing the first episode. Vinyl is said to have been given a nine-episode pickup and is set to premiere in 2016. Look for something more (perhaps a full trailer) later this week.
