Tales From the Hood Sequel Coming This Year

In the wake of the success of Jordan Peele’s Get Out, studios have been racing to make their own “socially aware” genre films. While most will miss the point completely, there’s one in the works that’s perfectly primed for a revival.

Rusty Cundieff‘s 1995 Tales From the Hood was hugely ahead of its time, putting an urban spin on “Tales From the Crypt” and sharing several stories in what is easily one of the best anthology films ever made. Now, 20 years later, it’s getting a much-needed sequel.

Yup, that’s Cundieff’s official Twitter account in which he shares a photo from his location scouting session for the yet-to-be-announced Tales From the Hood sequel. The good news is that he’s returning, and we can only assume/hope that co-writer Darin Scott will be as well.

In the 1995 film, a funeral director (Clarence Williams III) tells four strange tales of horror to three drug dealers he traps in his place of business. It was as much of a socially relevant movie then as it is now. Things are so tense and so horrible in 2018 that the filmmakers should have a lot to say, making this potentially one of the most importantfilms of the year.
