Watch Evanescence’s Amy Lee Cover U2’s ‘With Or Without You’ And Compare The 2

Though Evanescence are playing some shows late in the year, vocalist Amy Lee recently revealed that she’s working on music for herself and wasn’t sure when the band’s next release would be coming. While we’re not sure what she’s planning for herself, she has been keeping her fans entertained with the launch of her YouTube channel.

She’s used the outlet to record a couple of cover songs and post them for fans to check out. Her latest is a take on the U2 classic “With Or Without You,” which you can check out in the player above.

“Sometimes I dream in music. This dark version of U2’s immortal song was playing in my head as I woke up one morning,” recalls Lee. “I was lingering in that half-awake, half-asleep place, with no images — just darkness, this song and huge emotions. As I was becoming conscious I just kept thinking ‘Don’t let it go, don’t forget!’ And I went straight upstairs and laid down the synth and basic vocal.”

She adds, “I had the pleasure of seeing U2 live at MSG this year and it was powerful and inspiring. It made me excited to play live again! This track is still my favorite of theirs. Love is rarely simple, more often it’s tearing your guts out. And I think that’s why this song creeps into my dreams and haunts me. Enjoy!”

Amy’s rendition is definitely taking the original source material and putting a whole new stamp on it. If you need a refresher, check out U2’s original rendition of “With Or Without You” below.

“With Or Without You” follows on the heels of Amy’s cover of Portishead’s “It’s a Fire.” The intimate cover was Amy’s first posting on her YouTube site and already has over 225,000 views.

Beginning a new channel featuring content, Amy Lee follows up with a cover of U2’s track, “With or Without You”.
