Smash Mouth Singer Freaks Out Onstage After Crowd Throws Bread At Him

Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show on, get… violently angry?

Those aren’t the correct lyrics to Smash Mouth‘s “All Star,” but singer Steve Harwell changed his tune on Sunday night (June 14) when the veteran pop-rock group performed at the Taste of Fort Collins food festival in Colorado. The audience apparently threw pieces of bread at Harwell, and Harwell reacted with a profanity-packed rant and threats to beat up the main offenders.

According to the Coloradoan, loaves of bread were being given away at the festival vendors, and Harwell did not take kindly to the bread pieces being directed his way. Basically, Harwell loses his mind for roughly three minutes, while the rest of the band tries to diffuse the situation by performing their iconic hit, “All Star.” Is this the tensest situation in which “All Star” has ever been played? Probably.

“You throw one more piece of shit on fuckin’ stage, I’m gonna come find your ass, I’m gonna beat your ass, whoever the fuck you are out there,” quoth Harwell. “You wanna be a badass? Come up here. Come on. Come be a badass up here. Come on! Come onstage! Come onstage, badass! Come on! Come onstage! You bring your ass onstage, whoever’s throwing shit at me!”
