Axl Rose Is Mad About Mayweather/Pacquiao, Demands ‘Free-Match’

Were you disappointed by the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight? Axl Rose feels your pain. And he’s determined to use his fame – or at least his Twitter account – to do something about it.

On Monday, the Guns N’ Roses frontman launched into a lengthy (and well-cataloged) rant about the much-hyped bout, jabbing at Floyd Mayweather’s winning strategy – essentially, lots of holding – Manny Pacquiao’s supposed shoulder injury (which wasn’t revealed until the post-fight press conference) and the $100 pay-per-view price tag that accompanied the proceedings.

In a series of tweets, Rose called on all parties involved – not just the fighters, but the promoters and producers HBO and Showtime – to schedule a rematch, and demanded that the sequel be shown for free. The latter point is probably of particular interest to fans around the U.S. whose cable providers crapped out on fight night.

“May/Pac the Free-Match. No injuries. No holding. No PPV,” Rose wrote. “Boxing greats don’t duck the fans.”

Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision on Saturday night, after a match that was heavy on jabs, defense and footwork (and relatively light on haymakers and highlights). Of course, most boxing experts predicted something of the sort in the lead-up to the fight, but that didn’t stop fans the world over from complaining that the match was boring, or that Pacquiao was robbed by the ringside judges.

Mayweather landed significantly more punches during the fight, though Pacquiao probably had more memorable moments. Not surprisingly, following the judges’ decision, Pac claimed he should have won, while Floyd told reporters he planned to retire following his next match – though he has yet to name an opponent for his “final” bout. We know who Axl wants him to fight
